To Rule the Waves
To Rule the Waves: How the British Navy Shaped the Modern World | Arthur Herman
2 posts | 2 read | 2 to read
To Rule the Waves tells the extraordinary story of how the British Royal Navy allowed one nation to rise to a level of power unprecedented in history. From the navy's beginnings under Henry VIII to the age of computer warfare and special ops, historian Arthur Herman tells the spellbinding tale of great battles at sea, heroic sailors, violent conflict, and personal tragedy -- of the way one mighty institution forged a nation, an empire, and a new world. This P.S. edition features an extra 16 pages of insights into the book, including author interviews, recommended reading, and more.

Mehso-so

Listened to this on audible while moving. A comprehensive history of the British navy from the time of Hawkins and Drake to the end of the Falklands War. In many ways a good book, I only found the end jarring where the author bemoaned the loss of British sea power; which in its own way is an understandable sentiment, but seems to deny the realities of two world wars and the loss of empire.

These are the books I've bought so far during Audible's $4.95 sale. It goes through the end of the week though, so these may not be the last. 😉 #BookHaul #BookSale #Audible #AudioBooks
