Introducing DCI Sophie Allen in an exciting new detective series that will have you gripped from start to heart-stopping finish "The plot is meticulously crafted, absorbing and the narrative flows effortlessly." Purbeck Gazette A young woman's body is discovered on a deserted footpath in a Dorset seaside town late on a cold November night. She has been stabbed through the heart. It seems like a simple crime for DCI Sophie Allen and her team to solve. But not when the victim's mother is found strangled the next morning. The case grows more complex as DCI Sophie Allen discovers that the victims had secret histories, involving violence and intimidation. There's an obvious suspect but Detective Allen isn't convinced. Could someone else be lurking in the shadows, someone savagely violent, looking for a warped revenge? DARK CRIMES is the first in a series of detective thrillers featuring DCI Sophie Allen, head of the newly formed Violent Crime Unit in Dorset. She is pushed to the limit in her first major case as the team's head. If you like Angela Marsons, Rachel Abbott, Mel Sherratt, Ruth Rendell, or Mark Billingham you will be gripped by this exciting new crime fiction writer.

Great beginning to a series! Enjoyed the story, enjoyed the characters, and enjoyed the setting. A young woman is found stabbed to death. Later in he me mother is also found - strangled to death. This is a complex case, and a really good one. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Just purchased these eight books for 99p from Amazon, the DVI Sophie Allen Series. All books rated above 4 stars on Goodreads. I thought it was worth the risk for 99p!

Tove_Reads Well, someone is showing off his fat wallet 😂😂😂😂 4y

Watching this one, starring Jim Carrey, that I've never heard of before. Sounds really good. Fingers crossed it is. (I have no idea if it's based on the tagged book, but it is based on actual events) 4 #scarathlon points

madamereadsalot1 It was... not the right time to watch this...? It seems like something I'd usually really like. But not tonight, I was just bored. 🤷 5y

Mehso-so

The mystery itself is what saves this book. I had to know how it ended. We find out halfway through who it is (after a fairly obvious setup), so there's no huge surprises in this. What I had issue w/was the writing. It felt flat, and needed a round of editing to truly bring this story to life. 3 ⭐️

So far it's a fairly enjoyable book, though it could have done with another round of editing to liven up the writing, which falls flat.
