so-soAKA The Artamanov Business, this novel looks at 3 generations of former serfs who run a linen factory and have become successful merchants. As they try to fit into their adopted town and grow the business, they hear the whisperings of the peasant uprisings of the early 20th century. I'm currently reading this classic. Considered by many to be Gorky's masterpiece, it tells the story of several generations of the Artamonov family through the rise and fall of their business. It covers the social and political upheaval in Russia, from the liberation of serfs to the First World War and with it, the Russian revolution.
