Summer always means Wodehouse to me. Or crime novels. So I was delighted to find this one. I‘ve read several of these before - “The Crime Wave at Blandings” is one of my favorites - but to enjoy the company of Lord Emsworth, Jeeves & Wooster, Bingo Little, and formidable Aunts is a delight.
Ahhh, I just came across this prize! I had no idea it existed! Wodehouse plus mysteries?! Sounds delightful!
so-soNe‘er-do-wells and goody gentlemen of mens....these stories are backslapping funny. You have to be in the right mood for them. You can almost see the author as some preppy fellow smirking and winking as he pens one of these stories with one hand and tips his scotch with the other...
Go weird or go home.
A fair few of the stories in this collection are told with a framing device: they are introduced by Mr Mulliner, a man who has nothing better to do than sit in a pub and gossip about his myriad nephews who get into scrapes. The stories themselves are good, but the framing device is repetitive.
