#WordsOfOctober Day 1: This story provides a sensitive portrayal of what it must be like walking in the new girl, Farah‘s skin without attempting to provide a utopian quick fix but a simple #apple in one‘s hand offered in a gesture of welcome and the promise of friendship. Farah, a Muslim immigrant finds it difficult to make friends and be accepted. One Green Apple, a RF book written shortly after the 911 attacks has an impactful message of tolerance and acceptance and should be in our classrooms. Great for RA OR S. ESOL Strategies 3 & 4 encourage positive thinking and self talk and linking to students‘ prior knowledge are covered in this book. #LAE3414sp19. UDL principles 8.3,2.1,2.4,3.1 fostering collaboration

Mmw2478 and community, clarifying vocabulary, promoting understanding across languages, activating or supplying background knowledge apply to this read. 5y
DrSpalding This would be a beautiful book for storytelling. Are you considering this? 5y
Mmw2478 Hmmm...storytelling. 5y
gnewman @Mmw2478 I like how your resource gave options for people to choose from on Teachers Pay Teachers. It really generates creative freedom and gives some great activities. Overall, awesome job! 5y

My favorite bookstores are Green Apple in San Francisco (top left) and Powell's in Portland (top right). The Last Bookstore (bottom left) in Los Angeles and Strand Bookstore (bottom right) NYC are on my bucket list. I have fantasties about a family road trip to specifically visit weird landmarks (world's largest thermometer, etc) and bookstores 😊📚 #vivabookstore
@vivastory

vivastory I can't wait to go to Powell's. Are there any other type of road trips? 😂 6y
mrp27 The Last Bookstore is fantastic. It has a very dystopian meets steampunk feel to it as its housed in an old bank and a portion of the second floor is devoted to local artisans. I'm a little sad though as over the last couple of years it has shifted towards a more conventional book store in terms of its set up and content. Of course The Strand is paradise, I miss it. 6y

readordierachel @mrp27 Ooh, I love the sound of dystopian meets steampunk! Sad to hear that the vibe has changed though 😕. Are you from NY? 6y
mrp27 It's still a very cool book store and worth a visit. I was born and raised in Southern California but I lived in NY for 10 years and I've been traveling back and forth for the last 25 years, I consider NY home. 6y
readordierachel @mrp27 I was raised in SoCal too! In and around Pomona, if you know where that is. 6y
GatheringBooks love green apple too! i‘ve been to LA‘s last bookstore as well and it is as lovely as everyone says it is. with a whole area just for bargain books. 6y
mrp27 Ha! Upland and Rancho Cucamonga here! But now I'm currently further east. 6y
readordierachel @mrp27 Small world! 6y

#ThisRemindsMeOf... 🍏- this is my absolute favourite place, hands down, in San Francisco. I must have visited the city around four times now, and I always always make a pilgrimage to this place. And yes, the tagged picturebook is lovely too.
