Secrets for the Mad
Secrets for the Mad: Obsessions, Confessions, and Life Lessons | Dodie Clark
A collection of personal stories, lessons, song lyrics, and photos from the beloved British vlogger Dodie Clark, also known online as doddleoddle. When I feel like I'm going mad I write. A lot of my worst fears have come true; fears that felt so big I could barely hold them in my head. I was convinced that when they'd happen, the world would end. But the world didn't end. In fact, it pushed on and demanded to keep spinning through all sorts of mayhem, and I got through it. And because I persisted, I learned lessons about how to be a stronger, kinder, better human—lessons you can only learn by going through these sorts of things. This is for the people with minds that just don't stop; for those who feel everything seemingly a thousand times more than the people around them. Here are some words I wrote.

Dodie was only a passerby in the background of vloggers I used to watch. Last year I started listening to her music, so when I saw the book at the library I picked it up. It was an enjoyable read. I‘d say more for an older teen/early 20 audience, but it brought me back to that time when I was growing up watching other YouTubers. Her struggles were different, but relatable to mine at that age, and it‘s alway nice to read you‘re not alone.

Like any nonfiction book, parts of this REALLY spoke to me, while others just made me kind of bored and ready to skip ahead. I enjoyed Dodie's honest and open way of speaking through her book about mental illness among other things. I really, truly wish this book had been around when I was a teenager, and I hope it strikes a chord with those who are teens (or, any age) now, who can relate to the messages in this book.

[#BookReview] An autobiography by Dodie Clark who is a musician and YouTuber who not only has content about her music but also talks about mental illness, sexual identity, and relationships. I have been a big fan of Dodie‘s for a while and was really excited to finally get my hands on her book. 📚🌼

I've watched Dodie on YouTube for awhile now so I knew a little bit of her story but this book was just amazing. I loved the little illustrations throughout the book too, they were super cute.
