Wynken, Blynken, and Nod
Wynken, Blynken, and Nod | Eugene Field
5 posts | 5 read | 1 to read
WYNKEN, BLYNKEN AND Nod one night Sailed off in a wooden shoe Sailed off on a river of crystal light Into a sea of dew . . . So begins Eugene Fields lovely bedtime poem, which tells of three wee fishermen who sail up to the stars, and a boy who imagines it all before he drifts off to sleep. Fields timeless text has lulled generations of little listeners into dreamland, and this version, complimented by Giselle Potters magical illustrations, is perhaps the most enchantingand the closest to Fields own visionof all.

“Wynken and Blynken are eyes,
and Nod is a little head,
and the wodden shoe that sailed the skies,
is a wee one's trundle-bed...“

I really like this poem! It's great for settling down children for quiet time.

As a child this was the edition that fueled my #imagination Sadly, I don't seem to be able to get it with these illustrations anymore. (Though, I'm quite partial to the song these days for bedtimes when I have little ones around) #letstravelaugust @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @OriginalCyn620

When my sons were little, I used to read this to them. We had a large library of board books, because they loved to enthusiastically turn the pages, and regular pages would tear under their chunky toddler hands. I still love this, as well as Guess How Much I Love You and pretty much anything by Eric Carl or Sandra Boynton.

KCorter We love Sandra Boynton and Eric Carle too! Same on those board books. They can stand a bit more abuse. Especially since we youngest loves to hug and kiss (aka squeeze and chew on) books. Haha 6y
toastyfrog When I was a kid my parents used to read this to me but mine was in a book full of similar poems for kids! 6y
