Animals Eat Each Other
Animals Eat Each Other | Elle Nash
10 posts | 5 read | 11 to read
In Elle Nashs stunning and powerful debut, a girl with no name embarks on a fraught three-way relationship with Matt, a satanist and a tattoo artist, and his girlfriend Hannah, a new mom. The liaison is caged by strict rules and rigid emotional distance. Nonetheless, its all too easy to surrender to an attraction so powerful she finds herself erased, abandoning even her own name in favor of a new one: Lilith. As Lilith grows closer to Matt, she begins to recognize the dark undertow of obsession and jealousy that her presence has created between Matt and Hanna, and finds herself balancing on a knifes edge between pain and pleasure, the promise of the future and the crushing isolation of the present. With stripped-down prose and unflinching clarity, Nash examines madness in the wreckage of love, and the loss of self that accompanies it. Nash's work has been featured in Cosmopolitan, Elle, Marie Claire and others.

this book is bare. the narrator stating again and again that she fucks for validation. “daddy-shaped hole” like it‘s too good to only use once.

i do appreciate their drink of choice, cherry coke and vodka out of coffee mugs. very lana del rey.

1.5 stars

"Her approval was more seductive than my shame."

"I thought about blood, and bodies and blood, and how coming together of different meats, different textures created a human body and then a human brain"
"Jealousy is the admission to yourself that you are replacable."
"She made me feel like a predator. A meat eater. Like a pair of teeth with a stomach and no other purpose."

obsessions of self loathing, and desire to forget herself motivate a young frustrated girl who works at Radio Shack snorts percocet she washes down with Vodka or Robitussin, to explore sexual emotional boundaries she finds herself in a 3 way with a young couple.
short but deep debut was excellent. I did not really like the characters as people, Nash developed them well, gives the book a sense of reality. Recommended.SENSITIVE SUBJECT MATTER!

This slim debut is a force to be reckoned with and I loved every fierce and savage second of it. In gritty, sharp prose, Elle Nash thrusts readers into the madness of infatuation and toes the fine lines been pain and pleasure, ecstasy and anguish. There‘s satanism! There‘s S&M! There‘s queer polyamory! If you‘re drawn to raw, fearless writers like Merritt Tierce, Catherine Lacey and Ottessa Moshfegh, you should pick this up immediately.

Lindy I‘ve just placed a hold for this at the library. 😊 7y

This is an excellent story of what‘s its like to get truly lost in obsession even if it means a loss of self. I really really really love this one! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

This book doesn‘t officially come out until April from Dzanc Books, but TRUST ME you‘re going to want to preorder it.

The emotional buildup is palpable and how the characters treat each other is frighteningly real. It‘s like a manifestation of that thing my therapist is always saying: “hurt people hurt people.”
