Hilariously harsh book review headlines from the New York Times. View more here: https://www.instagram.com/p/CTSQZ7br-bq/?utm_medium=copy_link

Read-y_Picker Calls to mind yesterday's review by @LibrarianRyan “I am not sure the book is worth the time it takes to catalog“. That stuck with me lol! 3y
Kimberlone @Read-y_Picker haha love that!! 3y

And so the year is coming to an end... May the new year bring you a warm beverage, a big snuggly blanket and lots of time for your current read.

Nyt 1919 Book Review | New York Times

I am hoping for help improving my book reviews. What makes a review helpful? What types of things makes you decide if you‘d like the book personally?

CarolynM For me it's what is the book about? Not the story, but what are the themes, what is explored? Plus a some idea of the tone and the style of writing. Hope this is helpful.🙂 7y
Jprglisa Thank you very much! That is helpful. Hopefully you‘ll see an improvement in mine over the year! I appreciate you taking the time to answer 😺 7y
readinginthedark Sometimes I‘ll give a short premise on what the book is about. And then I write about my reaction to it, what appealed most to me, what I didn‘t like, and (if this wasn‘t part of the other points) what is unique or the same about the author‘s writing style or plot decisions. Usually after I work through the specifics of these points, I have a pretty long review. Some people include quotes for emphasis, which works as long as there are no spoilers. (edited) 7y
Jprglisa Thanks @readinginthedark! I sometimes find the synopsis part my least favourite of a review but I might need to work on adding it to some of mine. 7y
readinginthedark Yeah, it‘s not super exciting, but sometimes the editor pitches don‘t work for me and I feel like people need a better idea of what they‘re getting into. I only do this within the first few chapters, of course; you don‘t want to give too much away. Unless it‘s a picture book! 7y

So excited! Big surprise this morning at my porch door. My husband decided to get the NY Times paper copy (we have digital) because of a half price sale. 👏🏻🎉😍📚 love the feel, smell of newsprint!❤️

Bookcation74 I still get the paper copy delivered every Sunday - it wouldn‘t be Sunday without it! 7y
Wife NYT book review! 😍 7y
minkyb I miss this being delivered. I do go to the library to read it. Enjoy!!! 7y
kspenmoll @Bookcation74 @Wife @minkyb I am so looking forward to curling up with the paper & coffee during the winter months to come! Somehow it is not the same as digital- it‘s the ritual that makes it something to enjoy. 7y
sisilia I love their book review. The international edition doesnt have one, so I make sure I get the Sunday Times whenever I‘m in NYC 7y
