This was a quick read and had some good points - loved the friendship between the siblings, and appreciated the way Marianna reached out to one of the unpopular girls in her class. However, the mother's insistence on not allowing her children to have a Christmas tree, just so they would "be different" from everyone else just came through as incredibly selfish parenting, and made the whole book kind of sad.
