One Christmas Wish
One Christmas Wish | Katherine Rundell
4 posts | 6 read | 2 to read
It's Christmas Eve and Theo left at home with a babysitter sees an odd-looking star out of his window and decides to make a wish. He wishes that he had some friends to keep him company. Moments later the Christmas decorations begin to disentangle themselves from the tree behind him, ready to wreak a little havoc ... Written with generous helpings of warmth and humour, this is a story about treasuring the people and values that really matter at this time of year from master storyteller and bestselling children's author Katherine Rundell. Emily Sutton's breathtaking illustrations perfectly capture the magic of Christmas in stunning detail.

Lane wanted to start a new chapter book tonight, but they were both exhausted and I had already let them stay up too late watching Elf. The first few pages of this Christmas novella was my compromise. We read until the ornaments came to life, and I think the kids are intrigued enough to continue tomorrow 🎁🎄🎁

While waiting at HPB, I read some Christmas stories. I particularly liked Follow the Star pop-up book.

Still no long fiction (I tried, the Brain was highly unwilling. Also it was Anthony Trollope so... yeah!). Anyway!!! One Christmas Wish is the standard “lonely kid has a Christmas wish” but it‘s beautifully written and illustrated with elegance and heart. It‘s a lovely story and a beautiful book, highly recommended especially for the kids / families of any deployed military, the tin soldier portions are something special. ♥️
