In the Country of Last Things
In the Country of Last Things | Paul Auster
6 posts | 16 read | 31 to read
In a distant and unsettling future, Anna Blume is on a mission in an unnamed city of chaos and disaster. Its destitute inhabitants scavenge garbage for food and shelter, no industry exists, and an elusive government provides nothing but corruption. Anna wades through the filth to find her long-lost brother, a one-time journalist who may or may not be alive. "New York "Times-bestselling author Paul Auster ("The New York Trilogy)" shows us a disturbing Hobbesian society in this dystopian, post-apocalyptic novel.

I discovered this author recently and it was a « coup de foudre ». The New-York trilogy first and now this one. Beautifully written and deep. A warm recommandation. And because I like to read authors in chronological order of their published works, does anyone knows how I can get his first book « Squeeze Play » ?

Oh how I loved this! It might be my new favorite Auster.
A reviewer said Auster was writing of Hell. While there were things that caused me to question that, it was a good thing to keep in mind.
It reminded me of A Brief History of the Dead, another of my favorites, only a dystopian version of it.
Read this book!📚

@ScorpioBookDreams , do you know how hard it is to find book titles that don't start with an article?

Lcsmcat I just ignored the articles and counted the first “real” word. 7y
tournevis @Lcsmcat Me too, but it felt like cheating, you know? 7y

It's #Recommendsday and I'd like to share this awesome novel by Paul Auster with you. I'm a big fan of his works, but this was the very first one I read and it stuck with me. Dystopian and very clever - these are the word I'd use to describe the story. But why don't you find out for yourself? 😊

kristina_with_a_k Love Paul Auster's work, but haven't read this one yet. 8y
