March Forward, Girl
March Forward, Girl: From Young Warrior to Little Rock Nine | Melba Pattillo Beals
2 posts | 2 read | 2 to read
From the legendary civil rights activist and author of the million-copy selling Warriors Don't Cry comes a powerful, timely new memoir about growing up in the segregated South. Civil rights heroine Melba Patillo Beals puts readers right in her saddle oxfords as she struggles to understand--and fight back against--the laws that told her she was less just because of the color of her skin. Includes photos and illustrations.

My current audiobook listen. Finding it really interesting since I learned about the Little Rock Nine back in my middle school Arkansas history class and this is about the early experiences of one of the young women who was the first to integrate Little Rock Central High School in 1957. She was clearly an activist from a very young age-- and understandably so with all the racism and horrible experiences surrounding her.
