The title and cover both caught my eye on this one. It's a brash and messy YA read, but I enjoyed it and like the mix of serious and funny in the author's writing.

To be honest, it was quite slow till I reached the middle of the book and only then picked up. But the character development for the protagonist was excellent!
I was apprehensive about this one based on the character descriptions, but it's brash and boisterous cast grew on me, and by the end I was rooting for this dysfunctional band of sisters to find their way through the mess. A somewhat uncomfortable but ultimately rewarding read.
I got to do my first author interview with Aminah Mae Safi recently on @bookriot and it went live today! Her debut novel comes out next week, and (I may be biased but) I definitely recommend checking out both the interview and the book 🤗

A very eclectic mix of favorites from May.
Stayed up *way* too late finishing this book last night. If you're looking for a YA book that shows the beauty and power of female friendship in all its messy glory, then boy do I have a book for you! These characters are brash and imperfect and make a lot of mistakes but oh did I grow to love them. Major bonus points for not only the Star Wars title reference but also #ownvoices Muslim, Arab American rep!
