It's Even Worse Than You Think
It's Even Worse Than You Think: What the Trump Administration Is Doing to America | David Cay Johnston
The Trump administration is remaking the government. It's Even Worse Than You Think: What the Trump Administration Is Doing to America tells readers exactly how it is making America worse again. Bestselling author and longtime Trump observer David Cay Johnston shines a light on the political termites who have infested our government under the Trump Administration, destroying it from within and compromising our jobs, safety, finances, and more. No journalist knows Donald Trump better than David Cay Johnston, who has been following him since 1988. It's Even Worse Than You Think: What the Trump Administration Is Doing to America goes inside the administration to show how the federal agencies that touch the lives of all Americans are being undermined. Here is just some of what you will learn: The Wall. Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto told President Trump that Mexico will never pay for the border wall. So, Trump is proposing putting a tariff on Mexican imports. But a tariff will simply raise the price of Mexican goods in the US, meaning American consumers will end up paying for the wallif it ever gets built. Climate Change. Welcome to the new EPA, run by Scott Pruitt, a lawyer who has spent much of his career trying to destroy the agency he now heads. Secrecy reigns at the new EPA because Pruitt meets with industry executives to find out which clean air and clean water provisions they most want to roll back, and keeps staffers in the dark to make sure these pro-pollution plans dont leak prematurely. Stocking the Swamp. Contrary to his promise to drain the swamp in Washington, DC, Trump has filled his cabinet with millionaires and billionaires, from Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, a Goldman Sachs and hedge fund veteran who made much of his fortune foreclosing on homeowners to billionaire heiress Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, who has already put the interests of bankers ahead of debt-burdened students and their families. The Kleptocracy. Under Donald Trump conflict of interest is pass. When Trump isnt in Washington, he stays at one of his properties, where the taxpayers pick up the tab for staffers, Secret Service, and so on, all at full price. And back in Washington, everyone now knows that the Trump International Hotel is the only place to stay if you want to do business with the administration. Meanwhile sons Donald Jr. and Eric run an eyes-wide-open blind trust of Trump holdings to avoid the appearance of conflict of interestbut not the reality.

Had the honor and crazy experience tonight of sitting next to David Cay Johnston at my library‘s annual dinner. Talk about a mind-bending conversation - from federal depository libraries to Eisenhower to babysitting in libraries to his college days, followed by a riveting speech on America and American principles and the Constitution. His best advice for weathering the current political climate n the U.S? BE A CITIZEN.

A very policy based book. Basically the sequel to Johnston's previous book about Trump wherein all the abhorrent garbage he described continues to happen and on a grander scale.

Why can‘t I stop reading about this madman? I suppose it‘s the whole car accident thing. No matter your politics, this book is well researched and factual. The author has given us salient history to help the reader who may not remember trump from the 80‘s. ( ask any old time New Yorker). It‘s the book 📖 you probably should read to truly “get it”, rather than Fire and Fury. Sad. Alligator is for effect.

Chrissyreadit Yes- trump in the 80‘s. Growing up during that time in NYC I do not understand how any of my fellow NY era voted for him! People have dangerously short memories. 7y
tysephine With that in mind, it's easy to see why he bombed so bad in NY. 7y
GingerAntics Love the alligator. The amount of information that people are willing to forget/ignore is appalling. Sometimes it makes me wonder why all of us historians haven't gone mad by now (and also why I avoided US history like the plague). 7y

Samplergal @GingerAntics the alligator was about 10 feet from us as we canoed down Hillsborough River in Florida last week. I still can't believe I live in Florida. Lol. 7y
GingerAntics @Samplergal oh crap you took that photo!!! You are a braver woman than I am. I don't think I'd want to canoe 10 feet from an alligator. That is impressive!!! 7y
Samplergal @GingerAntics just shows how senility begins to set in. Lol. 7y
GingerAntics @Samplergal ROTFL good to know...I'll keep this in mind in the coming years. lol 7y
GingerAntics Reading the sample of this book from ibooks right now. I NEED this book. Not sure if I can get it on this check or the next (the library here most certainly won't have it - I'm in that middle of Trump country), but I am getting this book!!! I MUST READ THIS BOOK!!! 7y
Samplergal @GingerAntics I got mine on loan. I had to put in a request for my Florida library to buy it. Do you have that option? 7y
GingerAntics @Samplergal I've heard of some many people putting in buy suggestions at their local libraries. If we have that option here, they certainly don't let it be known, and I highly doubt they would actually buy it. I'm surrounded by people who actually bend their knee to "Lord Trump." 7y
Samplergal @GingerAntics propaganda works. And me? I‘d be calling the local library as a taxpayer to request it. Lost so many “friends”. It‘s no longer politics. It‘s to save our country. 7y
GingerAntics @Samplergal I totally agree. They don't care about tax payers that don't vote for more guns, more Jesus, and more republicans. In fact, a woman not requesting fluff writing is probably automatically suspect around here. I'll try the library at the junior college I work at. That's probably my best bet. The local library is mostly for kids and a two mile walk. 7y
Samplergal @GingerAntics I‘m sorry. Sounds horrible. Wish I had it personally, I‘d send it in a heartbeat. 7y
GingerAntics @Samplergal they don't do much reading here anyway. They'd rather just get it from the TV. When we moved from MN to TX, I started meeting troves of people who graduated high school without ever reading a book. Apparently that's easy here. It's disturbing. I dated a guy with a degree in engineering who had never read a book in his life. That should have been my first clue it wasn't going to work out. lol 7y
GingerAntics I‘m on the wait list for this book on my library‘s digital collection. Apparently it‘s more popular than I even would have thought, here in Texas. 7y

Regarding new EPA Director “Pruitt did not talk about why environmental regulations exist: to protect human health and safety, to make sure children are not drinking water laced with lead as happened in Flint, Michigan; to minimize the damage from industrial processes, such as ensuring that fumes from electric power plant smokestacks are not so toxic that they turn the rain forests acid, killing trees and trout; “

I am not sure if the title of this book is accurate for me. Perhaps it should be called It‘s Every Bit as Bad as You Think. I can‘t say I liked this book, as it infuriated me. I do think it is an honest look at things this leader and his administration are doing to this country. I decided to opt for this book over Fire and Fury, because that one seemed like something out of a tabloid.

Pruzy It‘s not so much that Fire and Fury is a tabloid as much as it doesn‘t really bring anything new to the table if you have been keeping up with the reporting in the NYTimes. 7y
Melkyl @Pruzy That is probably true of this book too. I know I will eventually read Fire and Fury. 7y
Karkar I just watched a speech he gave where he talked about how resistant people were what was wrong with America and I just about came unglued.... I wonder if this is how the Germans who were against Hitler felt as he rose to power. 7y
Melkyl @Karkar That is infuriating. He has no idea of the greatness of America. We were founded by resistant people. 7y
