OMG, what have gotten ourselves into?
OMG, what have gotten ourselves into?
Had the honor and crazy experience tonight of sitting next to David Cay Johnston at my library‘s annual dinner. Talk about a mind-bending conversation - from federal depository libraries to Eisenhower to babysitting in libraries to his college days, followed by a riveting speech on America and American principles and the Constitution. His best advice for weathering the current political climate n the U.S? BE A CITIZEN.
A very policy based book. Basically the sequel to Johnston's previous book about Trump wherein all the abhorrent garbage he described continues to happen and on a grander scale.
Why can‘t I stop reading about this madman? I suppose it‘s the whole car accident thing. No matter your politics, this book is well researched and factual. The author has given us salient history to help the reader who may not remember trump from the 80‘s. ( ask any old time New Yorker). It‘s the book 📖 you probably should read to truly “get it”, rather than Fire and Fury. Sad. Alligator is for effect.
Regarding new EPA Director “Pruitt did not talk about why environmental regulations exist: to protect human health and safety, to make sure children are not drinking water laced with lead as happened in Flint, Michigan; to minimize the damage from industrial processes, such as ensuring that fumes from electric power plant smokestacks are not so toxic that they turn the rain forests acid, killing trees and trout; “
“people see what they want to see, hear what they want to hear, believe what they want to believe, and let their hopes and wishes vanquish their skepticism.”
I am not sure if the title of this book is accurate for me. Perhaps it should be called It‘s Every Bit as Bad as You Think. I can‘t say I liked this book, as it infuriated me. I do think it is an honest look at things this leader and his administration are doing to this country. I decided to opt for this book over Fire and Fury, because that one seemed like something out of a tabloid.
