Today's reading
Earlier this year I read all 4 of Harrison‘s Viriconium books, and the latter 3 became so abstract and surreal that, while I could appreciate their artfulness, I didn‘t really enjoy them.
The 1st book however was fantastic, a perfect blend of poetry and pulp, so while I am sending the omnibus edition off to the used book store, I ordered the first volume with this bad-ass cover to keep forever.

I‘ve decided to review each book in my Viriconium omnibus separately and holy cuss if they are all as good as The Pastel City then this is going to be an all-timer.
Imagine if some literary fiction master tried his hand at writing a Conan the Barbarian story and you might end up somewhere close. This is the pulpiest of pulp with robot birds and laser swords and brain-thieving monsters but the sheer beauty and mastery of the prose blew me away.
