Dyslexia Is My Superpower (Most of the Time)
Dyslexia Is My Superpower (Most of the Time) | Margaret Rooke
2 posts
In more than 100 interviews, children and young adults reveal their personal tips and tactics for honing the creative benefits of dyslexia, enabling them to thrive in school and beyond. Strategies include ways to develop confidence and self-belief. The contributors have outlined specific approaches they feel have helped them, and others that haven't. The book contains stunning illustrations by 8-18 year olds with dyslexia. The first-hand accounts are inspiring in the way they normalise dyslexia and reveal the many success stories. There is an additional section for professionals who work in education or special learning environments, with advice given by school students themselves.

I came across this new section in our libraries kids area today. As a dyslexic who adores reading but really really struggled To actually read as a child It makes me so happy to see things becoming more accessible.

I‘m not embarrassed to admit i have challenges when it comes to reading. While my speed might be at a 5th grade level, my reading comprehension was always years beyond my age. Slow and steady wins the race!

Cupofjo I got 4th grade, but my comprehension was spot on too! Dyslexia sucks, but I‘ve come a long way.. so I am proud! 6y
Kaye Nothing wrong with reading slower. You probably catch things in the book that faster readers miss. 📖 6y

EvieBee I was 8h grade! But I ain‘t ashamed either. Thanks for posting!! ♥️♥️♥️🤗 6y
EvieBee @Cupofjo Same here! My teachers would scratch their heads because I always had my nose in a book despite being dyslexic. (edited) 6y
Gezemice Slower is better! My kid reads about three times faster than me but she does not remember much. 6y
LibrarianJen @EvieBee @Cupofjo maybe we should start a dyslexic Litsy club 😂 💖 (also, why did they make the word dyslexia so hard to spell when it‘s in reference to those who have among other things a hard time spelling?). 6y
EvieBee Haha! Right?! Thank you autocorrect. 6y
Cupofjo @LibrarianJen lmao! I know, it should be spelled phonetically to help us out!! 😂 6y
Cupofjo @EvieBee I didn‘t even learn to read until 2/3rd grade... didn‘t enjoy it until HS.. now, I‘m fully addicted!! 6y
Peddler410 This was fun! I got 8th grade and I‘m good with that. Seems accurate since i‘ve been in middle school for the past 18 years 😂 reading middle grade and YA books! 6y
LibrarianJen @Peddler410 I love middle grade and YA! It‘s funny working at a HS in special ed. The general ed classes are reading One Flew Over the CuckoosNest and the Special Ed is reading Into the Wild. I would much rather read what the special ed kids are reading 😂 6y
