A very good book to start a discussion about poverty and homelessness. It is kid-friendly, but blunt. This book will help adults have a conversation worth having about a tough topic with kids.

This book does an excellent job of explaining poverty, homelessness, refugees and why some people might not have a home, or may not have a home that is safe for them. It encourages children to ask questions about these topics, which is so important!

LibrarianRyan I love almost every book in this series. The next one out is about consent and it‘s amazing. 5y
alisiakae @LibrarianRyan I'll have to look for that one! 5y

This is an excellent book for grade schoolers on poverty. Topics covered include homelessness, lack of health care, lack of access to education, refugees, fundamental human rights, and ideas for action.

LibrarianRyan It‘s part of a series (which you may already know). I agree. Very well done. 6y

Just reading through this very serious new picture book about how to talk to kids about poverty & homelessness & I stumbled upon this photo of a child casually talking on his “apple phone.” Intentional? Unintentional? Borderline inappropriate but still a little funny? 🙈🍎

Leniverse Oh no. Now I have that silly song in my head. "I have an apple. I have a pen. Pen apple, apple pen!" 6y
monalyisha @Leniverse That‘s okay. After the previous post, which began, “believe it or not,” I had the theme song for “The Greatest American Hero” stuck in my head for hours. (“Believe it or not/ I‘m walkin‘ on air.” 🎶) 6y

4⭐️ This book attempts to answer a child‘s questions about homelessness and poverty. It is exceptionally well done. The mix or real pictures and illustrations help make the information understandable, and relatable.
