Curfew
Curfew | Phil Rickman
4 posts | 5 read | 8 to read
Every night for 400 years, a curfew bell has tolled from the church tower of Crybbe—superstitious ritual or sole defense against an ancient evil?In Crybbe, only strangers walk at twilight . . . For 400 years, the curfew bell has tolled nightly from the church tower of the small country town, Crybbe's only defense against the evil rising unbidden in its haunted streets. Radio reporter Fay Morrison came to Crybbe because she had no choice. Millionaire music tycoon Max Goff came because there was nothing left to conquer, except the power of the spirit. But he knew nothing of the town's legacy of dark magic—and nobody felt like telling him.

#ScarathlonDailyPrompts #Day15 #Secret This book is about a town with a lot of secrets. Phil Rickman is a master at unsettling English ghost & ancient evil type stories, the kind that stay with you for a long time. This one is about a small Welsh village whose secret is the old standing stones hold an old evil & they‘ll do anything to stop them being restored. #Scarathlon #TeamSlaughter 6pts

#SplashIntoSummerReads #day28 #SleepWTheLightsOn These are six of the scariest books I can remember reading. Though, with both Stephen King & Phil Rickman, you could pretty much put any of their books in their spot. The Rats terrified me at age 14, The Exorcist has given me many nightmares, both The Shining & The Haunting of Hill House are seriously creepy, Crybbe is a classic British ghost story & The Amityville Horror scares me because it's real!👻

Pickpick

My #recommendsday pick this week is a very British horror story by the master of the ghost story, Phil Rickman. I love all of his books, his stories have that creep factor, the one that makes you check under the bed & keep the lights on. His Merrily Watkins series is brilliant, about the female exorcist for the Anglican Church, but his standalone books are his best. This one & The Man In The Moss will make your skin crawl. Don't go out after dark!

A gateway drug.

This is the first Phil Rickman book I read. I have now read almost all that he published. Though often categorized with supernatural or horror fiction, it is so much more than that.
