Sometimes a graphic novel is really the best way to highlight a situation that is difficult to comprehend. This is the story of a West African man from #CoteDIvoire who is desperate to immigrate to Europe but he can‘t obtain a legal visa. So he does what so many Africans do, they attempt to enter the EU illegally. The simple prose and line drawings are harrowing and haunting. This book while short is very impactful. #Scribd #ReadingAfrica22

Librarybelle Completely agree about graphic novels and some subject matters! 1y
Cinfhen I think I might go children‘s books / gn to complete the challenge if any are available- I only have a handful of countries to go @Librarybelle 1y

Yes, white people traveling are explorers, heroes, tourists, and Ex-pats. POC are undesirables, villains, terrorists, and illegal migrants. Oh, but also opportunities for exploitation, cheap labor, slavers, and pimps. This book will put you in their shoes for a little while. Hopefully those shoes will stay on in your mind and your actions when you think about migrants and immigrants and inequity.

When you leave the consulate, one thing‘s for sure—you understand that Côte d‘Ivoire loves France more than France loves Côte d‘Ivoire. But, seeing as Côte d‘Ivoire doesn‘t love its own people very much either, Ivorians still flee for Europe.
