Faces of Fear
Faces of Fear: A Novel | John Saul
2 posts | 2 read | 2 to read
New York Times bestselling author John Saul is a master at writing novels that chill the bones, curdle the blood, and tap into our darkest fears. He creates characters so real that youll feel as if theyre friends or family, and throws them into situations so terrifying that you wont be able to look away until you turn the final page. Now, in Faces of Fear, Saul proves that theres a fine line between perfection and madness. Fifteen-year-old Alison Shaw may not be beautiful, but she doesnt really care: Shed much rather read a good book than primp in front of a mirror anyway. But Alisons gorgeous mother, Risa, knows that beauty can be a key to success and wishes only the best for her daughter, especially when Risa marries a widowed plastic surgeon and moves Alison from Santa Monica to Bel Air. Beauty may be only skin deep, but to the denizens of Bel Air it means the world. Everywhere mother and daughter look, they are surrounded by beautiful people, many of whom have benefited from the skills of Alisons new stepfather, the charismatic Peter Dunn. Peter is certain he can turn Alison into a vision of loveliness, and Risadrawn in by his cool confidenceis delighted. Reluctantly, Alison agrees to undergo the first procedure, and her transformation begins. But soon Alison discovers a picture of Peters first wife. To Alisons horror, she notices a resemblance between the image in the photo and the work her stepfather is doing on her. Though Risa refuses to acknowledge the strange similarity, Alison becomes increasingly frightened. Digging further into her stepfathers murky past, Alison uncovers dark secretsand even darker motivesand realizes that her worst fears are fast becoming her reality. From the Hardcover edition.

Changing my profile pic.
(Only because I was tired of having completely different profile pics across various other social media.) Made me feel a bit like I had multiple personalities 😝.
.

Plus the old one was at least a year out of date and I‘m older, greyer and grumpier now 😁.

This is what I got for myself at 2nd & Charles yesterday. I was a big John Saul fan when I was younger, so I couldn‘t resist one I had not read for only $1.

One of my swap partners may be getting the same book clip; but which one?

JoScho Have you read Cry for the Strangers? It is like the only scary book my mom has ever read and she is always suggesting I read it. 6y
aprilpohren I loved Cry for the Strangers and all of John Saul's early work!!! 6y
MaleficentBookDragon @aprilpohren @JoScho I don‘t remember that one though I read his books so long ago. I know I 🖤🖤🖤 (edited) 6y
TheBookgeekFrau I was a HUGE John Saul fan back in my pre-teen days! Wish I had saved my old books😕 6y
