Season of the Dragonflies
Season of the Dragonflies: A Novel | Sarah Creech
5 posts | 7 read | 12 to read
As beguiling as the novels of Alice Hoffman, Adriana Trigiani, Aimee Bender, and Sarah Addison Allen, Season of the Dragonflies is a story of flowers, sisters, practical magic, old secrets, and new love, set in the Blue Ridge Mountains. For generations, the Lenore women have manufactured a perfume unlike any other, and guarded the unique and mysterious ingredients. Their perfumery, hidden in the quiet rolling hills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, creates one special elixir that secretly sells for millions of dollars to the worlds most powerfulmovie stars, politicians, artists, and CEOs. The Lenores signature perfume is actually the key to their success. Willow, the coolly elegant Lenore family matriarch, is the brains behind the company. Her gorgeous, golden-haired daughter Mya is its heart. Like her foremothers, she can read scents and envision their power. Willows younger daughter, dark-haired, soulful Lucia, claims no magical touch, nor does she want any part of the family business. She left the mountains years ago to make her own way. But trouble is brewing. Willow is experiencing strange spells of forgetfulness. Mya is plotting a coup. A client is threatening blackmail. And most ominously, the unique flowers used in their perfume are dying. Whoever can save the company will inherit it. Though Mya is the obvious choice, Lucia has begun showing signs of her own special abilities. And her return to the mountainsheralded by a swarm of blue dragonfliesmay be the answer they all need.

#WanderingJune

I wish that I could fly
Into the sky
So very high
Just like a dragonfly...

I love dragonflies & how they symbolize change. In this novel about a family of female perfume makers in the Blue Ridge mountains, youngest daughter Lucia leaves New York & comes back to the family home & business. Much change is ahead & her arrival is heralded by a swarm of blue dragonflies. Will Lucia stay & help save the business or will she #FlyAway ?

B.Reader Great pick! Can you help me out with the #wanderingjune original post? I have been off app for a while! 5y

For National Tattoo day DPL asked patrons to post a picture of their tattoo and they would suggest books and movies based on it. I posted my most recent tattoo (seen above). One of their suggestions was Season of the Dragonflies by Sarah Creech. I loved this book. Slipping into this world of magical realism was a beautiful respite. I thought the characters were well developed and the story drew me in. #seasonofthedragonflies #magicalrealism

#TBT Following the lead of Litsy peeps, I'm posting what I was reading this week 2-years ago. Hidden in the Blue Ridge Mountains, a family perfumery concocts a mysterious scent-the key to success for their select clients for generations & now their empire is at risk. It took time for me to warm to the 3 main characters, but the magical realism & whimsical vibe won out & make it a great summer read. Link to blog review & Caprese recipe in comments.

RealLifeReading That picture is making me hungry! 8y

brendanmleonard That's a great idea for future TBTs! 8y
DebinHawaii @Texreader Thank you. It is a really yummy Caprese. 👍 @brendanmleonard I have seen a few people post them the last couple of weeks (different time frames) & thought it looked like fun! 😀 8y
DebinHawaii @RealLifeReading Thanks! Me too. I should have made this salad tonight for dinner! 😉 8y
RealLifeReading I read the recipe and thought it interesting that the olive oil needs to be cold! Does that really make a difference? 8y
DebinHawaii @RealLifeReading You know I have made it a few times after that post and forgot a time or two to chill the oil first, but I don't think it's a big deal & there wasn't really any notable difference. I saw him make it on The Kitchen but don't remember if he said why to chill it. 😀 8y
Laalaleighh This book sounds fascinating. Stacking. I also wanna know what that blurb talking about roast beef and hummus is referring to! 8y
RealLifeReading Thanks Deb for answering my food question on a book app 😂 8y
DebinHawaii @Laalaleighh That's part of the blog post for the book review that shows in the screen shot. When I do a recipe inspired by the book I usually talk about the different food mentioned in the book. 😀 8y
DebinHawaii @RealLifeReading Hah! My pleasure! Books and food are my two biggest passions. 📚🍴 8y
Laalaleighh @DebinHawaii off to read your blog! Food and books make the world go round!! 8y
DebinHawaii @Laalaleighh Thanks! It's not all book-related food but there's a lot of it there. ❤️ 8y
