Great overview of Irish history from the perspective of the Irish people and their own triumphs and defeats. I enjoyed that it didn‘t give too much praise where it wasn‘t due. I liked Hegarty‘s handling of sectarianism in the historical and current state of Irish social life. He didn‘t shy away from the topic but didn‘t point fingers at one side or the other. I would have liked to see more of the culture or social life of Ireland and her people.

GingerAntics I enjoyed the book, but as a history of the people we actually learned very little specific about the people themselves. In the end it‘s a nice starting point, and for what it is, it works nicely. I‘m ready for my next text on Irish History. *As an aside, I do have to say that this book as encouraged me to take up my study of the Irish language again. Here goes nothing.* 🌟🌟🌟🌟/5 7y

GingerAntics @Lcsmcat Lit2Go is this program at the University of Florida, where they do audiobooks of popular classics that you can access for free. You can download them and keep them forever. I have several on my iPod. 7y
