Two families, mysteriously murdered under similar circumstances, just a month apart. One was memorialized in Truman Capote's classic novel, In Cold Blood. The other was all but forgotten. Dick Hickock and Perry Smith confessed to the first: the November 15, 1959 murder of a family of four in Holcomb, Kansas. Despite remarkable coincidences between the two crimes, they denied committing the second: the December 19 murder of a family of four in Osprey, Florida. Over half a century later, a determined Florida detective undertakes exceptional efforts to try to bring closure to the long-cold case. WARNING: CRIME SCENE PHOTOS ARE GRAPHIC

Mehso-so

This slim book tells the story of a family of four brutally slaughtered in FL in 1959. Their murders occurred one month after the infamous Clutter family, of In Cold Blood fame. Their are many people out there that feel the Clutter killers, Perry Smith and Dick Hickock, are also responsible for the murders of this family. The evidence is laid out in this book. It kept my attention—very compelling stuff, but it felt almost like an outline of a book

Reviewsbylola The author could not have strayed farther from Capote‘s story telling methods. I can‘t understand why he didn‘t attempt to actually tell a story, instead of just laying out the facts for us. It‘s the most bare bones true crime book I‘ve ever read, while still including a plethora of facts. So while I really enjoyed it, I have to give it a so-so. 5y
MommyWantsToReadHerBook It's a shame that something that sounds riveting was written so poorly and that no editor apparently felt it could be done better. 5y
Reviewsbylola It‘s strange because what he did write wasn‘t bad. It certainly wasn‘t hard to read. But the second half felt like just a basic recitation of the facts. Nothing more. @MommyWantsToReadHerBook 5y

britt_brooke Random, but since you‘re the resident true crime queen ?, I thought I‘d ask. Can you recommend a good JonBenét Ramsey book? 5y
Reviewsbylola I actually don‘t know that I‘ve read one. If I have, it‘s been awhile. The fictionalized account JCO wrote is excellent though and I highly recommend it. @britt_brooke 5y

For my true crime followers who loved and read in cold blood by capote this is about another possible murder the perpetrators of the clutter family may have committed very good so far !

Reviewsbylola Wow, this author is brave for tackling a story that ties into Capote‘s book. That seems so intimidating to me. 😂 I‘ll have to read this one. I definitely remember hearing about it—I think it‘s mentioned in In Cold Blood. 5y
NikkiRobson73 So far the author has made a pretty good case 5y
Cathythoughts I can‘t imagine anything being better than capote‘s book ... but I‘m intrigued & if it‘s even half as good - it will be well worth a read ! Stacked 5y
