So many children can relate to this heartwarming book, it teaches about loss, friendship, family, and hope. The book felt like it was meant for adults to read so I think this would be a great book for older elementary grades (4th and 5th). I have a feeling a lot of students can connect to this book.
I got this book to send to my cousin for her 10th birthday. Anyone here read it?
I read this for the Book Riot challenge and was surprised at how adult it felt for a novel meant for young kids. Good life lessons and a really detailed story.
A story of family and cultural bonds - a wonderful addition to the array of books showcasing cultural diversity.
Since this book is targeted for ages 8-12, I suggest that some of the scenes may be too “dark” for the younger eight- and nine-year-olds. But I highly recommend it for the older children – and adults.
