Interesting insight but felt outdated to me (sorry bell!!)
Interesting insight but felt outdated to me (sorry bell!!)
Pretty good but I am burnt out of service industry memoirs
I really admire Esther Perel‘s realistic approach to relationships and human behavior.
Definitely not my usual read and I didn‘t love it but I‘m glad I read it because people often ask me if I have read any Jemisin. (I‘ve never been to New York so this was much less interesting to me than to someone from there I‘m sure!)
Wow I LOVED this, and not just because I am a big Titanic person
A great starter book for people who don‘t understand what my generation is up against, though it does read outdated already because of the pandemic. (Also I am quoted in the book!!)
I love this man and his big, brave heart. This was my 100th book this year!
I thought this was very cute and thoughtful! An enjoyable read, it took me just two days.
I wanted to love this but it was really just okay. I did not enjoy the restaurant stuff (though it reminded me of Sweetbitter) but the main character‘s grief and mental health were very well written.
Really enjoyed this smart and impressive novel.
Listened to it and was entertaining enough! Not extremely memorable for me, but it was a nice listen.
This re-read has helped me through this year. This one is a masterpiece. (And I donated a lot of money to trans organizations as I read through.)
I wanted to read a spooky book during October for once and this one was fun!
Listened to this one and just felt okay about it. I‘m glad there‘s a popular memoir that highlights how difficult all of the systems are that are supposed to help people living below the poverty line, but I also didn‘t super enjoy her story. Couldn‘t help but wonder how different this story would be from a woman of color.
This was, I think, the best book I‘ve ever read. What an absolutely incredible and epic piece of work. I would highly recommend everyone read this to learn so much more about the real lives of the great migration.
I listened to this and definitely spaced out at times, so I don‘t know if I can fairly say that I liked or didn‘t like it!
One of the best books I‘ve ever read.
I liked some of this a lot, and didn‘t care for the rest! Though the subject matter is very important to me.
Really awesome to read contemporary fiction written by Native writers. This was captivating and exciting and brutal and very good!
I read this for the Book Riot challenge and was surprised at how adult it felt for a novel meant for young kids. Good life lessons and a really detailed story.
Listened to this one and thoroughly enjoyed Lowe‘s voice, literal and figurative. The history of psych drugs and lithium is fascinating and Lowe‘s personal story is too.
This was so fun and a great escape from literally everything. I‘m Internet pals with the author so I‘m a bit biased but I think Kerry has a great grasp on romcoms and her books are cute and fun. And this was my 80th book this year!
Fantastic reporting and very respectfully done. I loved finishing this and looking Nicole up to check on her — I had no idea she‘s an actress. 🥰
Haunting and fascinating. I am not sure I‘ve read something quite like this. Based on the life and poetry of Forugh Farrokhzad, this novel is semi-fictional but at its core, full of truth and history. I adored it and was heartbroken by it.
This was absolutely phenomenal and one of the best written books I have read all year.
I can‘t believe I‘m almost done with my Harry Potter re-read! Order of the Phoenix is officially my favorite of the series and this is my first ever copy. I lost the book jacket forever ago and it‘s tattooed with my mom‘s candle wax and I wouldn‘t ever trade it for a new one.
This was my “doorstopper” choice based on the Book Riot Read Harder challenge. I know nothing of horses and horse racing but of course, this story is much bigger than that, (and I also did learn a lot about horses). Gorgeous writing and really tough to stomach at times.
This is such a good, messy story about “normal” every day people and how each of us deals with our internal struggles. And didn‘t make me want pizza, actually!
This was super short, extremely eerie, and very good.
A re-read but it‘s been years. This story is so beautifully written and even more emotional than I remembered.
Seems like this is a divisive read according to some people I‘ve chatted with but I loved it.
The most gorgeous one yet.
