A Cartography of Peace
A Cartography of Peace | Jean L. Connor
2 posts | 1 read | 2 to read
Poetry. "Only some art knows how to teach us how to live, and in a way that we are willing, ardently willing, to be taught. Jean Connor's A CARTOGRAPHY OF PEACE is that kind of book. By turns 'wildly admiring' or 'sitting beneath the tutelage of the dark,' these poems take hold of me and sit me down in an attention to both language and the natural world that is riveting and wrought, silence-filled and sublime. 'Time to read/ something old/ deeper than August,' says the speaker in one poem. Yes. Indeed. Right here. This whole book"--Robin Behn.

Although I've read this poetry collection in the past, I've taken it off the shelf again. I'm still as enthusiastic as ever about this poet's insight and skill. After I finish this collection, I'll re-read her other collection, A Hinge of Joy. Fabulous, succinct poems.

Suet624 Okay, This is really weird. I worked at wake Robin, a retirement community, while this author lived there. However, I never knew she was a poet. My mind is now officially blown. Obituary for Jean L. Connor https://www.burlingtonfreepress.com/obituaries/bfp036486 2w
MaGoose I would have LOVED to meet this woman. She is one of my favorite poets. 2w

Pickpick

First collection of a great older poet - began writing in her 80s, I think.
