"Establishes Lindqvist as Sweden's Stephen King."--"The Washington Post "on "Harbor"John Ajvide Lindqvist has been crowned the heir apparent to Stephen King by numerous sources, and he is heralded around the globe as one of the most spectacularly talented horror writers working today. His first novel, "Let the Right One In, " is a cult classic that has been made into iconic films in both Sweden and in the United States. His second novel, "Handling the Undead, "is beloved by horror fans everywhere. His third novel, "Harbor," is a masterpiece that draws countless comparisons to Stephen King. Now, with "Little Star," his most profoundly unsettling book yet, Lindqvist treads previously unmarked territory. A man finds a baby in the woods, left for dead. He brings the baby home, and he and his wife raise the girl in their basement. When a shocking and catastrophic incident occurs, the couple's son Jerry whisks the girl away to Stockholm to start a new life. There, he enters her in a nationwide singing competition. Another young girl who's never fit in sees the performance on TV, and a spark is struck that will ignite the most terrifying duo in modern fiction. "Little Star" is an unforgettable portrait of adolescence, a modern-day "Carrie "for the age of internet bullies, offensive reality television, and overnight You Tube sensations. Chilling, unnerving, and petrifying, "Little Star "is the most disturbing book to date by Scandinavian superstar John Ajvide Lindqvist.

Wouldn't have chosen this one, partly because the title doesn't appeal and partly because it's a photo cover - which I hate! But was recommended as first class Scandi horror and as i love all things nordic
thought i would add to my Halloween reads. Glad I did! So far is brilliantly, skin creepingly atmospheric

I like a bit of Scandinoir & Scandicrime but this book delved into Scandihorror (If that's even a book genre ?)

Possibly my first ever book classified as horror (Not really my thing) but strong characters & an instantly engaging story made for a good read. Twisted certainly, full of blood & gore definitely...but to make up for it the author threw in a bit of Abba ?‍? I'll never hear "Thank you for the music" in quite the same way again!

My March TBR! 3 books that I'm currently reading and some that I would like to get to. Who knows if I'll actually manage to make myself finish Elric - I've been reading that book since January 1st! #marchintoreading

An interesting metaphor for falling away from yourself. This quote comes after a particularly nasty bullying scene.

Still making my way through this book, which I started earlier this week. #Lettherightonein is one of my favorite books. While I'm enjoying this so far, it has to be one of the more disturbing books I've ever read.

Wow. Just wow. This is the first of his that I have read and again, wow. The language is beautiful. And the creepy factor is very real. Lindqvist is an artist. This book made me so uncomfortable frequently. But it was so worth it. I'm having a hard time typing real sentences.

Blair_Reads Yes! Love his writing. Let the Right One in is a favorite of mine! 8y
Kluckleesie @Blair_Reads I saw the original Swedish film, but didn't read the book. Now I definitely have to. 8y

137 pages in and I don't like anybody. Is it wrong to be hoping for a fictional characters death? Maybe a fiery one? 🤔. Let me clarify- I am really enjoying the book.

Kluckleesie Well..... Ask and ye shall receive I guess. Had I read a little farther. 8y
MrBook Nope, it's not wrong, lol. 8y

Having a decent idea how this is going to go for the man who found the baby in the woods, I have to say it couldn't happen to a more deserving person. And I'm only 19 pages in.

Holy hell. What a book! Truly horrifying and disturbing, I was hooked from the very first page, Lindqvist doesn't wait around to start throwing the sucker punches. Wouldn't recommend finish reading it whilst suffering from a hangover however😷

MyBookLife I love this book!! One of my favorite authors too!! ❤️❤️ A little proud that he is swedish too even though I have never even seen him 😂😂 8y
Ais He's amazing! We love all things Swedish here in Ireland....I was definitely admiring the aesthetics on the Swedish team this evening😊 8y

Skin crawling atmosphere created, while trying to counteract it with a blast of lemony refreshment. I'll be sleeping with my lights on tonight 💤

A man finds a baby out in the woods. He takes her home and she grows up hidden in the basement. I love this book and I love, love, love John Ajvide Lindqvist. This is the best book I have read by him so far ❤️ It is creepy and lovely. If you like to read horror, you have to give him a try!

courtney Added to my list! I've read half of Let the Right One In, bought another one with zombies, and no this one sounds great. I think I need to give him more time soon!! 8y
