THE NUMBER ONE SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER, PICKED FOR THE ZOE BALL TV BOOK CLUB Ruth Jones is excellent on human nature and why we make the mistakes we do. I felt for every character. Unputdownable. Jojo Moyes ***** In her unmissable debut, actress and screenwriter Ruth Jones shows us the dangers of trying to recapture that which was once lost and failing to realise the beauty of what we already have. ***** We spend most of our lives wishing we were somewhere else or someone else, or looking forward or harping back. Always thinking the grass is greener on the other side. But it never is. Its still grass. Just a different patch of it, thats all. ***** The past has a habit of tracking us down. And tripping us up. When Kate was twenty-two, she had an intense and passionate affair with a married man, Callum, which ended in heartbreak. Kate thought shed never get over it. Seventeen years later, life has moved on Kate, now a successful actress, is living in London, married to Matt and mother to little Tallulah. Meanwhile Callum and his wife Belinda are happy together, living in Edinburgh and watching their kids grow up. The past, it would seem, is well and truly behind them all. But then Kate meets Callum again. And they are faced with a choice: to walk away from each other . . . or to risk finding out what might have been. Second chances are a rare gift in life. But that doesnt mean they should always be taken . . . ***** 'I love books about gnarly, messy relationships and this one kept me gripped from the beginning. A great read. Jane Fallon Heart-rending, provocative and astutely written, Never Greener is a love story about getting what you want and losing everything you need. Ruths characters will stay with me for a long time. Cathy Bramley

I'd read a lot of biographies so fancied something different for a change and this book didnt disappoint. Great read looking at how love can massively influence your life choices for the good and bad....

Mehso-so

Still annoyed the following morning that Callum threw away a 27 year or more marriage for Kate 😭 Considering how unfeeling and uncaring Kate was about it all..

So i ended up really enjoying this book after thinking I'd despise it! I felt so many moments of hate and sadness but the ending satisfied me!

I'm so happy for Hetty and Ivor! 😍
I'm overjoyed for Matt finding love again!
And I'm thankful that Kate finally got her son Luca back after all those years!

And the fact Callum takes Belinda on a date every week still as a way to prove he is always hers regardless of if she denies him still... 😭🥰

Out of the 34 chapters i have read so far, I've only enjoyed 2 of them.
Matts college flashback when he was smoking pot was hilarious and as much as i don't like Kate i felt happy to find she kept Callums baby.
Overall, i can't see the point in the affair between Callum and Kate, there wasn't any romantic build up between them to suggest they was inlove and i just see Kate as a homewrecker and i feel so sad for Matt, Belinda and all their children

Bailedbailed

It‘s not often I bail but 6 and a bit hours to go and I really don‘t care where it‘s going. I like the premise and I‘m all about messy relationship type books but this is all over the place. It flips back and forth too much and every character and their nan has a storyline. The two main characters became predictable and boring. Could have been decent with better editing but 4 hours in and it already feels too long 🤷‍♀️

KateFulfordAuthor @youneverarrived Thanks, Katie, for that honest appraisal 6y
CarolynM I've looked at this in the bookshop more than once because I really like Stella, but I've always decided against it. Think I made the right choice. 6y

I really enjoyed this book about an affair that is rekindled after 17 years and how it affects the families involved. It was funny, sweet, sad and infuriating watching reading about these folks - all the right kinds of feelings for a story like this. I love Jones‘ writing and acting on tv, so am super pleased her novel was so good too! Hope she writes more!

And straight into the next book while there‘s quiet time at lunch (one daughter at a party, one having a nap and a husband watching some kind of sports!!). I‘m excited to read this as I have loved Ruth Jones in all her tv shows, think this will be kind, funny and sweet!
