Greer Hennessy needs palm trees. As a movie location scout, picture-perfect is the name of the game. But her last project literally went up in flames, and her career is on the verge of flaming out. Greer has been given one more chance, if she can find the perfect undiscovered beach hideaway for a big-budget movie. She zeroes in on a sleepy Florida panhandle town called Cypress Key. There's one motel, a marina, a long stretch of pristine beach and an old fishing pier with a community casino-which will be perfect for the film's explosive climax. There's just one problem. Eben Thibadeaux, the town mayor, completely objects to Greer's plan. A lifelong resident of Cypress Key, Eben wants the town to be revitalized, not commercialized. After a toxic paper plant closed, the bay has only recently been reborn, and Eb has no intention of letting anybody screw with his town again. But Greer has a way of making things happen, regardless of obstacles. And Greer and Eb are way too attracted to each other for either of them to see reason. Between an ambitious director and his entourage-including a spoiled "It Boy" lead actor-who parachute into town, a conniving local ex-socialite, and a cast of local fangirls and opportunists who catch the movie bug, nothing is going to be the same in Cypress Key. Now Greer is forced to make some hard choices: about the people and the town she's come to care about, and about her own life. True love is only for the movies, right? Can Greer find a way to be the heroine in her own life story? Told with inimitable heart and humor, Mary Kay Andrews' "Beach Town" is the perfect summer destination.

I did not want this one to end! I love a good romance, these names tho!! Eb and Greer. Took me a few minutes to picture names with genders. Another great summer read. Summer is coming to an end, I wonder how many more summer romance novels I can squeeze in?

Pleasantly surprised. I‘m more of a Nazi era and crime mystery sort of gal but this book is keeping my interest. A bit long, over 400Pgs but easy read

Sometimes the only solution to a dark and serious world is a book set at the beach. This has light and fluffy written all over it. The MCs are smart enough, but also hot messes in their emotional world. The movie set theme is fun, but perhaps not quite accurate. Still, it was nice to have a breezy break, that‘s for sure!

KathyWheeler I liked this one for the reasons you listed. In some of her books, the characters are not very likable— I couldn‘t finish Hissy Fit — but I liked the characters in this one fine. I know nothing about the movie industry so I had no clue whether the depiction of it was accurate or not. (edited) 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @KathyWheeler This is the first of her books I‘ve read. It might induce me to try another. Which one would you recommend? 6y
KathyWheeler @BarbaraTheBibliophage I liked Summer Rental and Spring Fever (although it was annoying in some ways). I also like this mystery series she writes; the main character is Callahan Garrity. 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @KathyWheeler Thanks—I‘ll check them out! 6y

It‘s time for something light and quick! I‘ve had a bunch of slow, stressful books lately. Need a break before I dive into my TBR.

Plus this works for #beachread #booked2018 yay!

I stayed up until 2 finishing this, so I must have liked it. Some of the movie making scenes dragged on, but overall it was a good summery read. Do you think it‘s really going to be a series?
