A bride wasn't in his plans . . .The last thing Marcus, the Duke of Autenberry, expects to see after sleeping off a night's drunken shenanigans is a woman being auctioned in the village square. Before he can think about the ramifications, he buys her, thinking he's winning the girl her freedom. Instead, he discovers he's bought a wife. A duke wasn't in hers . . .Alyse Bell is almost rid of the shackles that bound her in a name-only marriage, but the day her friend promised to purchase her in a wife auction, he vanishes, leaving her to face a mob of unsavory bachelors intent on owning her body and soul. But the appearance of a wicked, wealthy stranger changes her path forever. The road to ruin . . .Marcus doesn't know what to do with the impertinent chit who clearly isn't duchess material! Insisting their marriage isn't legitimate, they leave for his estate in Scotland, hoping to devise a plan to get rid of each other. However, on a journey fraught with misadventure, their attraction grows and Marcus realizes he'll do anything to keep this fiery woman for his own.

Finally Marcus gets his bride. This book really pulled me in. Stayed up late to finish.

Mehso-so

After marathoning some epic reads I needed something quick and light to change things up. I picked this up at the library bookstore where I volunteer for a quarter. The premise intrigued me and it did what I needed it to do but it wasn‘t anything amazing. It had humor and fit the traditional framework of the genre.

The heroine felt flat to me - though she is saved from a bride auction by the duke-in-disguise hero, she somehow remains uninteresting and doesn‘t develop much in terms of personality or character over the novel. The duke is more dynamic but still pretty close to a stock character.

The duke of autenberry wakes up in a small Scottish town on auction day, he tries to save the scared young woman on the auction block only to discover that he‘s bought himself a wife. The traveling together and having to share a bed trope doesn‘t usually do much for me but this was really good! halfway through I realized this was the 3rd book in the series but I quickly ordered the other 2. I‘m definitely a Sophie Jordan fan now☺️👍 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
