I didn't always love this one in the past because there's a lot of uncertainty in Crane and Stephen's connection, but they do talk it out and figure things out, and there's a lovely scene where they finally talk about love. The mystery is okay, and the introduction of Esther and a bit more of the background of Stephen's life as a justiciar is awesome.
Pretty much no POV from Stephen in this book, unlike the first. Missed that!
