Book of Common Prayer
Book of Common Prayer | Joan Didion
4 posts | 9 read | 19 to read
In this Conradian masterpiece of American innocence and evil set in the fictional Central American country of Boca Grande, two American women face the harsh realities, political and personal, of living on the edge in a land with an uncertain future. Writing with her signature telegraphic swiftness, the author creates a terrifying commentary on an age of conscienceless authority.

Trying to gently bring myself back to reading to help the old mental health. I‘ve been gone from Litsy a lot recently but I‘m trying to be properly back now 💖 I always come back!

Joan Didion is probably my favourite writer of all time and an easy person to come back to. May have investigated getting a framed photo of her for my room lol.

Anyone else in danger of losing their job atm? Nasty times ahead, makes it difficult to focus 😐

AmyG She is a favorite, too....such a brilliant writer. And, yes, especially today....I am having a hard time concentrating. 4y
Eggs This is a Didion I have not read-must read! Sorry to hear of your job/no job stress 😞 These are trying times. ((((Hugs)))) 4y

I've been looking forward to reading this for a while. I saw it at the top of a shelf at A Capella Books in Atlanta, slightly torn and faded, amongst brand new books. I was too short to reach it, so I had my tall friend grab it for me. I feel nervous reading books by people I greatly admire. I don't want to miss or misinterpret anything.

So I started a new book at lunch time today. I am not really familiar with Joan Didion. Anyone have any thoughts about her work? Only read a few pages of this, but it seems good so far. #newreads #lunchreading
