There is both excitement and dismay in Llanfair when a new French restaurant opens. The glamorous owner, Madame Yvette, tries to win over the locals, and everything seems to be going well until a string of fires plagues the town. One night the restaurant burns down, and a body is found in the rubble. Constable Evans joins Sergeant Watkins to follow a trail of clues that leads them to the South of England and then to France, and finally to the conclusion that a dangerous killer is loose in Llanfair, in Rhys Bowen's fourth Evan Evans mystery, Evan and Elle.

Pickpick

Constable Evans may be overlooked by the police force as "just a village bobbie" - (He can't even carry a gun) - but they greatly underestimate his abilities. Evan Evans should be a valued member of the CID, but he is finding it difficult to decide between becoming a detective or continuing to serve tiny Llanfair. Evans loves the mountains and his small village, and his quick wits save them from further arson and murder. I had a great time ⬇️

mabell tagging along on his investigation. And I thoroughly enjoyed the Glamorgan Sausages and Welsh Rarebit I had in the Red Dragon! Yum!! (Recipes to be posted on blog) #BackpackEurope #WhimsicalTour 6y
JenP Looks good! 6y
mabell @JenP Thanks! Both were really good! Funnily enough, Glamorgan sausages do not contain sausage. 😄 6y

I'm taking my time in Wales - climbing Glyder Fawr, hanging out at the Red Dragon, sampling the cuisine at the new French restaurant, Chez Yvette. Unfortunately, someone is trying to spoil the tranquility by setting fire to foreigners' property. I'm trying to help Constable Evans discover who is responsible. Additional motivation? I'm a foreigner. 😳

mabell @Andrew65 I think they are less common than the Royal Spyness books. I was able to get this one from the library. 6y

My first day in Wales, and I am trying to get the hang of the beautiful language! Fortunately, everyone also speaks English, or I would be very lost! 😳 Hopefully, I will be able to learn a few words before I leave! ❤️

Mehso-so

I love the Welsh countryside. If it wasn‘t for the weather I wouldn‘t mind living there. I think a remote village with few people would be the right place for me! Bowen‘s books are great, but this one was so-so, 3-/5. Will continue reading the series though. Love the setting and the quirky characters. The plot wasn‘t anything special this time, and life in Llanfair didn‘t move on the way I‘d expected it to.

I needed something light after that last book. I think this series qualifies as cozy mystery. I'm a sucker for murder in a quaint village.
