This book looks at how Christianity as a religion has harmed all people, Christians and others, with its views and teachings on sex. It‘s interesting, thought-provoking, and bold. I resonated with much of the book with some difficulty in formulating what my thoughts are based on my upbringing and background.

I read most of this in 2020 but just finished it, so sneaking it in as book 3 of 2021. I loved it. So affirming and full of wisdom that we all need to hear, especially those with a church background

Written for people who are emerging from traditional evangelical Christianity, this book was a challenging but necessary read for me. Bolz-Weber is passionate about the Church and about correcting what she believes has been harmful teaching about sex — or lack thereof — over the centuries.

Some books are important because of your context. This is one of those for me. Growing up embedded in purity culture and trying to figure out how to move on from that as I understand myself and my place in the world in new ways can be challenging. This book provides narratives to explore this, ask questions, and recognize new ways of being.

This book blew my mind. I grew up deeply entrenched in the Christian purity culture she writes about, and as such I read this book and whisper “is what she says really true?”
I hope so.

I suspect my problem here is that I was raised an atheist. I couldn‘t relate to the feelings or experiences of most of the people in this book. I do respect the author a great deal for tackling this topic within a community that has historically turned a blind eye to anything involving “non-traditional” sexuality. 🤷🏻‍♀️

This book is written by a Denver pastor that testified for the sex Ed bill in CO. I found this book on sex and religion to be really thought provoking. I attended Lutheran classes when I was younger and identified many of these themes that she discusses in the lessons I heard. I loved her honesty, bravery, and open minded approach. Gave me lots to think about as I parent my children to have healthy relationships as they hit puberty. Excellent book

This is a powerful book with the potential to help a lot of people, I think. A few too many sermon-y moments for my taste, but that‘s my own issue, not the book‘s - she is a pastor, after all! I love Nadia Bolz-Weber‘s voice, and this, like all of her books, is full of fresh perspectives and presents an inclusive, subversive, and unrestrained approach to Christianity. (Great on audio, which again is always true of Bolz-Weber‘s books.)

I really enjoyed this. I was raised Catholic and attended Catholic school my whole life, though different from the Christianity described here, still lent me plenty of shame and guilt around sex. I loved reading this viewpoint.
