No Baggage: A Minimalist Tale of Love and Wandering | Clara Bensen
12 posts | 14 read | 25 to read
One Dress, Three Weeks, Eight CountriesZero Baggage Newly recovered from a quarter-life meltdown, Clara Bensen decided to test her comeback by signing up for an online dating account. She never expected to meet Jeff, a wildly energetic university professor with a reputation for bucking convention. They barely know each others last names when they agree to set out on a risky travel experiment spanning eight countries and three weeks. The catch? No hotel reservations, no plans, and best of all, no baggage. Claras story will resonate with adventurers and homebodies alikeits at once a romance, a travelogue, and a bright modern take on the age-old questions: How do you find the courage to explore beyond your comfort zone? Can you love someone without the need for labels and commitment? Is it possible to truly leave your baggage behind?

I binge listened to this book in one day because it's about meeting a guy on ok cupid and then deciding to travel halfway around the world with him after knowing him a month, and I met a guy on ok cupid and decided to fly halfway around the world with him after a month so it's kinda relevant to my interests. We leave for Thailand Tuesday!

merelybookish Fun! Have a great trip!! 7y

Isn't the BEST when you buy a new bookshelf and then get to fill it with all your books!?! (What's not the best is realizing that your books are still pretty crowded on the new shelf lol) 📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚
I just started No Baggage today... so far I'm very intrigued:)

Apparently this book has been overexposed & overhyped due to a Salon article by the author which led to this book being written...but I didn't find that out until after I'd bought it, so I came at it fresh & that helped. I found it after hearing the author's companion mention this trip in an offhand manner in an interview. 3.75 stars out of 5--more philosophy than travel memoir & much less gimmicky than I feared. I enjoyed it. #biblioweekend

GlitteryOtters This photo is of a new-to-me park I visited (a little over a mile away from my home) while listening to this audiobook. I was the only person there as it it pretty secluded & I only found out it existed by stumbling upon it accidentally on google maps. Looks like a great place to picnic & read, I definitely will be back! 8y

I was on a walk through my neighborhood park when I finished my audiobook of Carry On this morning, so I immediately moved on to the next audiobook I had downloaded, No Baggage (yes, the combination of those titles is making me 😂😂, BTW). I'm loving this #biblioweekend! 💕📚💕

moranadatter That looks lovely! I'm really excited it has cooled off enough here to make it pleasant to be outdoors. 8y
GlitteryOtters @kmdartist me too! Our cooler weather is about to disappear again, for at least a few days, so I am trying to take full advantage of it now (90F is 2 to 3 days away 😩). I seriously cannot wait for autumn. 💕 8y
moranadatter @GlitteryOtters Same. Are you in the Midwest too? Fall is my favorite season. Labor Day through the end of November is the best time of the year. 🍂🍁💍🎃☕️😍 8y

LauraBeth This looks wonderful 😀 8y
GlitteryOtters @LauraBeth it is absolutely wonderful. The close proximity (less than a mile) of two gorgeous parks was definitely a selling point when I bought my home. 💕 8y
GlitteryOtters @kmdartist yup, in the land of University of Michigan (currently overrun with football & newly moved in students). I'm originally from California, which doesn't get the intensely different seasonal changes like the Midwest, and I think that makes me appreciate it all the more (my husband is from Michigan and totally takes it for granted). 8y
GlitteryOtters @kmdartist also, I really adore the late September through mid November time period here...and yet I am currently booked to be away from home from October 4-25! I will miss the Michigan gorgeousness during those 3 weeks. I'll have to ask my husband & best friend to text me tons of nature pics while I am gone 😂 8y
moranadatter Same. Only replace Michigan with Wisconsin. Lots of football and new students. I've never been to Michigan unless you count the inside of the airport in Detroit, which I don't. 8y
moranadatter @GlitteryOtters Ooh! Going anywhere fun? 8y
GlitteryOtters @kmdartist Southern California to hit Disneyland & visit my sisters & friends for a week, then 2 weeks in Northern California to help out my family (mostly housecleaning & food prep while they work on household projects--I have heart problems I was born with which no longer allow me to work, but I can help out with tasks for a couple hours a day so they can focus on major projects). 8y

Mehso-so

Sadly I was underwhelmed by this book. Maybe I'm just not carefree enough but I found them foolish. I just couldn't strongly connect.

Still recovering from The Beast I.e. Infinite Jest so I'm going to enjoy this light and breezy little audio book. Not expecting great literature here but it should be entertaining.

It's officially July & we're here with our next pick because 24in48 is that much closer! Clara Bensen decides to take a trip with a brand new guy & no luggage, reservations, or plans. This account of what happens when you drop everything & attempt to embrace the unknown is a perfect summer pick.

the most amazing thing to me- beyond bringing no luggage and having no plan or reservations for this 3 week trip thru 8 countries- clara brought only 2 tampons!! that is a dedicated minimalist for sure

This was a quick, fun read. It made me want to drop everything and travel.... Lightly of coarse.
