Whats Happening to Grandpa meets Up in this tender, sensitive picture book that gently explains the memory loss associated with aging and diseases such as Alzheimers. Jamess Grandpa has the best balloons because he has the best memories. He has balloons showing Dad when he was young and Grandma when they were married. Grandpa has balloons about camping and Aunt Nelles poor cow. Grandpa also has a silver balloon filled with the memory of a fishing trip he and James took together. But when Grandpas balloons begin to float away, James is heartbroken. No matter how hard he runs, James cant catch them. One day, Grandpa lets go of the silver balloonand he doesnt even notice! Grandpa no longer has balloons of his own. But James has many more than before. Its up to him to share those balloons, one by one.

#ConflictedWorlds Day 19: #PersonVsMemories. In The Remember Balloons, the young boy‘s grandfather seems to be losing more of his balloons (his memories) each day, while the young one desperately tries to run after them and hold on to them. He simply can not understand why his grandfather would choose to let go of something silvery and precious. My review: https://wp.me/pDlzr-m8H

A definite read for kids and adults. It is a such a sweet and compassionate book about aging and memory loss. I read it to my class as part of my #Classroombookday #12booksof2020 @Andrew65

Grabbed some books for my preschool class at the library today. I can already tell that I can never read this to children without bawling. The story is about a little boy, James, and the balloons signify memories. His Grandpa‘s balloons start to drift away. James wants to catch them and bring them back, but he can‘t. Good book for anyone with a family member who is dealing with dementia.
