Second book club book in a row that feels like it wont ever end despite being 190 pages. Maybe its the translation, maybe its the way the dialogue is presented. Maybe its the little boy who i strongly dislied. i dont know. i got to part 3 and said enough. ugh…

A terrific, bracing read. Daniele is minding his grandson Mario in a Naples apartment. He‘s illustrating Henry James‘ ‘The Jolly Corner‘ & James‘ work infuses this story. It‘s a short novel but with many layers. Starnone takes the idea of a man ageing, struggling w his art & makes it as vivid as a ghost story, w the feel of a game (nightmareish & playful). A strong, intense book, brilliantly translated. Starnone shows the drama in ordinary life.

Finished Trick for #backpackeurope #Italy This was written by Domenico Starnone, translated by Jhumpa Lahiri, and related to the short story The Jolly Corner by Henry James.

I enjoyed reading Lahiri‘s introduction to the book and this interview with her from earlier this year when Trick was chosen as a selection for Asymptote Book Club

This was one of the books in box 2 of my Christmas present from my mom. I do not think I would have picked this up on my own. Thankfully the staff (Gersende) of Shakespeare and Company recommended this. I started last night and am half way through. I love the characters.
