“Keep good books within reach. Start with Traveling Mercies. David Sedaris is good too. If you don‘t have any good books, go to the library. If you don‘t have a library card, apply for one. This will #stress you out. You will worry that the librarian will sense that you are a disaster and reject you. Listen: they don‘t know, and they don‘t care. They gave me a card, and I‘ve got a rap sheet as long as your arm.”

"Three years!" I cried. "Were you shipwrecked?"
"Nay, mate," said he; "#marooned."
I had heard the word, and I knew it stood for a horrible kind of punishment common enough among the buccaneers, in which the offender is put ashore with a little powder and shot and left behind on some desolate and distant island. #QuotsyNov19

He and Rick were close. And once upon a time, she‘d been just as close, having grown up near the brothers. Back then, Mark had been tough, #smart and fiercely protective of those he cared about. He‘d also had a wild streak a mile wide, and she‘d seen him brawl plenty. It‘d turned her on then, but it absolutely didn‘t now.
She was grown-up, mature.
Or so she told herself in the light of day.

He came to a halt to read a tablet erected on a grave contemporary with several others near it... It bore a simple inscription,

“Well-” The salesman walked about 3 feet, stopped and hunched his shoulders. Suddenly he seemed aware of house windows or the cold sky staring at his neck. He turned slowly, sniffing the air. Wind rattled the empty trees. Sunlight, breaking through a small rift in the clouds, minted a last few oak leaves all gold. My great-great-great grandfather had started the house, and he‘d had ideas about privacy, so to reach it you had to turn off the parish road into the driveway, go through some woods, and then you arrived at the clearing in which the house stood.” #QuotsyOct19 #AllHallowsRead

Dogearedcopy LOL, I have this thing where I tend to mirror the accent of the person I'm speaking to. I was listening to this audiobook years ago when I pulled my car into the gas station, and drawled with a heavily affected Southern accent, “Fill her up, please!“ :-D

#BannedBookRecommendation
This is the one and only book I actually had some one rip me a new one because I was reading this to my daughter.
We have read this as a family. Listened to the audiobooks on trips. Of all the books - this book has sparked conversations on friendship, peer-pressure, doing the right thing when no one else is with you, racism, mentorship, outright evil (Voldemort), and concealed evil (Umbridge)
I could go on. and on.

Readergrrl I am glad to hear that you continued to read this despite someone else‘s opinion. I‘ve become convinced that most book banners have never actually read the book they want banned. And, not to stir the pot, but I believe that Harry Potter has taught children much more about friendship, family, compassion, faith in humanity, and morality than some other *ahem* books I‘ve read. 2mo
Slajaunie My daughter began to read these when she was in the third grade. People kept telling not to allow her to read them that they encouraged magic and such. I decided to read them myself to find out. I fell in love! We did the midnight releases of the books and movies after that. It was years of shared love of the books for my daughter and me. We had HP parties and dressed up. It was wonderful and I wish I could do it all again with her. 2mo
