This week we suddenly lost my husband‘s father. It‘s a devastating blow to our family, but also because of the bonds and connections he created we have the support system in place to get us through. My friend‘s sister (a child psychiatrist) recommended these books for our boys. They are so lucky (as all of us are) to have had the 7 years they had with him. We will work to honor his memory and keep him alive in our hearts.
This is a great book for helping young children learn to understand and cope with separation anxiety. It explains how being apart from someone does not mean we are not still connected to that person. It's a great tool for kids who are dealing with loss. It makes the conversation a lot easier. #childrensbook #separationanxiety #copingwithloss #patricekarst #joannelewvriethoff #theraputicbook
Mom sent me this book for Valentine‘s Day and somehow I only just read it, but it was the perfect time. I was supposed to be going to visit her and my brother for my birthday week, but with COVID spiking again we decided to postpone. I miss them so much. But this book perfectly articulates how everyone who loves each other remains connected, no matter the distance. 💙
Great explanation of how love connects us through separation. All separation (even the seeming permanence of separation by physical distance or death) is temporary and does not diminish connection. The analogy of the invisible string makes this topic accessible to children of all ages.
