Scions have no limits Scions do not die And Scions do not disappear Sergeant Ted Regan has a problem. A son of one of the great corporate families, a Scion, has gone missing at the front. He should have been protected by his Ironclad the lethal battle suits that make the Scions masters of war but something has gone catastrophically wrong. Now Regan and his men, ill-equipped and demoralised, must go behind enemy lines, find the missing Scion, and uncover how his suit failed. Is there a new Ironcladkiller out there? And how are common soldiers lacking the protection afforded the rich supposed to survive the battlefield of tomorrow? A new standalone novella by the Arthur C Clarke Award-winning author of Children of Time.

🎧 Another Tchaikovsky novella.

Military sci-fantasy. I‘m oddly not the target audience for this book. I should be.

Near future. The spawn of the rich have super human soldier suits. One has disappeared in a Norse war … the common man‘s soldiers are sent to find him.

Not sure I‘m a fan of the way this was written.

A little disappointing but still worth reading!

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ I love Tchaikovsky‘s work but couldn‘t connect to this one like I wanted to. Onwards.

Happy 2019 to everyone!

If you are looking for escapism then this is not for you. This near future dystopia is a searing critique of Brexit, Trumpian politics, climate change and galloping wealth inequality. Dressed in a story about a mech war. Loved it, but also deeply depressed by it.

My 6th Adrian Tchaikovsky novel, but my first outside of his insect-steam-fantasy series.

This quick read takes place in a future where major corporations wage war (an idea that has been done, but Tchaikovsky puts his own spin on it) and the richest 1% do battle in invincible mech suits. When one goes missing a tiny squad must sneak into hostile Sweden avoiding robots and Finnish bioweapons to recover the lost Scion.

Very readable, if somewhat predictable (at least as soon as Franken was injured). Not sure really what I think overall -- it's entertaining, but I don't think it'll stick with me.

I don‘t typically go in for super-special editions, but I love Adrian Tchaikovsky‘s Shadows of the Apt series (epic steam-fantasy in which the societies have aligned themselves to the characteristics of different insects) and this novella was about giant robots so I couldn‘t say no. #Signed #bookmail

Check out that cover sans dust jacket!

This has ‘movie deal‘ written all over it. If my husband read books (other than ones about cyclists and the Tour de France etc) he‘d adore this. It‘s a novella, so you‘re going into the action from the start. Great Sci-Fi. I liked it a lot. And the cover picture is rather helpful!
