Solomon Gursky stato qui | Mordecai Richler
9 posts | 7 read | 9 to read

“A very old-fashioned novel,” according to its author, it features dozens of characters, multiple plots and settings, and a time span of 150 years. It is an adventure story, a mystery novel, social satire, a crazy historical and biblical epic, and a tale of unfulfilled love.” It‘s hard to review this one. I‘m still processing. At first it felt like a hot mess. But I laughed, I cried, it broke my heart, and I fell in love. It‘s brilliant.

Cozy night inside. Again. With some Chicken Bones hot chocolate. I‘m almost half way through this book and I‘m not sure what I think yet. I think I might really like it.

MsMelissa Chicken bones hot chocolate? I didn‘t think you could buy that outside of the maritimes! 3y
JacqMac @Book_Fiend_Melissa We are originally from Cape Breton. We get some tasty care packages, from our relatives, this time of year. 3y

MsMelissa That explains it ☺️ Have you tried the Chicken Bones liqueur? My sister-in-law in New Brunswick had it when we went to visit last Christmas. I didn‘t try it, but my husband had some. 3y
MsMelissa @merelybookish there are probably a lot of people reading this post very confused about chicken bones 🤣😂 3y

I miss bookstores sooo much. And my library. The smells and the sounds and the books. All the things about them. But yay, for #bookmail

An intricately constructed story about Moses Berger‘s search for the true story of Solomon Gursky and Solomon‘s grandfather, Ephraim, who in this universe was the sole survivor of the ill-fated Franklin expedition. I liked the Franklin angle and the preponderance of airplanes.

#FunPhotoFriday A recent re-read for me, this book held up as wonderfully as I had hoped. If ever the word "romp" was used well to describe a novel, it would be for this one. This book is epic and grand, fun and sharp. And for all its literariness, there is an interesting mystery. 'Solomon Gursky' is a great read from a #CanLit master.
