Resurrection
Resurrection | Leo Tolstoy, Louise Maude, Richard F. Gustafson
Resurrection (1899) is the last of Tolstoy's major novels. It tells the story of a nobleman's attempt to redeem the suffering his youthful philandering inflicted on a peasant girl who ends up a prisoner in Siberia. Tolstoy's vision of redemption achieved through loving forgiveness, and his condemnation of violence, dominate the novel. An intimate, psychological tale of guilt, anger, and forgiveness, Resurrection is at the same time a panoramic description of social life in Russia at the end of the nineteenth century, reflecting its author's outrage at the social injustices of the world in which he lived. This edition, which updates a classic translation, has explanatory notes and a substantial introduction based on the most recent scholarship in the field.

Resurrection is Tolstoys final novel. It‘s a glimpse of Russian life…a dark and dreary look at the legal system, incarceration, the divide between rich and poor. This explains for me why the Russian revolution happened!!
I loved it..his writing will be with me for a while!
Something light…Piorot and some short stories by AMS!
And my son‘s beautiful wedding to his soul mate last weekend..and me dancing with mine 🤣

Life could be worse😇 I‘m currently on vacation in Budapest, chilling in the sun in a park and reading a bit on my Kindle App. Can highly recommend this way to spend your sunday🤩

I‘m also positively surprised by my current Read- I‘m gaining a lot of interesting insights in Tolstoi‘s mind and thoughts about society from this read.

#fridayfunwith451 @451Degrees

Found this copy of Resurrection at a yard sale. Copyright is 1899. Just enough to feel like an "antique", while not quite old enough to be worth anything ?

451Degrees What a find!! Crazy to think these books are over a hundred years old 😳 thanks for the tag💙 4y

The very notion that makes the institutions of 1984 possible. I'm starting to spot a theme in these "classics"

This and 2 other books defined my ‘quest‘ in life and continue to do so. #Tolstoy I stumbled upon in my Dad‘s collection when in High School and was my first real introduction to literary fiction. The writing was unlike anything I had read until then (think Nancy Drews, Archie‘s and Sweet Valley Twins🙈). It had me in a trance. #Empathy what a revelation! #LifeLesson #Classics #Riotgram #Day12

A powerful man uses his position to take advantage of a woman. His life continues with no issue while the woman's life collapses around her.The man suffers an urge to right his wrong, not due the guilt of his actions but rather the shock of being confronted with the impact of his actions..
The story continues a pace, filled with Tolstoy's own personal philosophy. An absorbing read. Relevant to our times, less a roar of #metoo, more, #whatcanyoudo?
