Peri menopausal women raise up!! 🙌🏻🙋🏻‍♀️🙌🏻 I am loving these strong middle aged female characters and Grace is no exception. Fed up, she leaves her car and takes off across London on foot to her daughter Sophie‘s 16th birthday. Two other timelines follow recent events that made her daughter angry and the arc of her relationship with her ex-husband and Sophie‘s childhood. Strong pick! Nice job @AardvarkBookClub 🫶🏻

Cinfhen Sounds fun! I‘ll look for the audio 😍 6mo

The cover design basically insisted I read this book. I love the style and it‘s such a compact little book, just like a diary. Which this is: a fictional diary of a fictional pregnancy conceived by a young Japanese working woman. She‘s tired of her coworkers taking advantage of her and the ever present sexism. So she uses her female body to her advantage. Told in weekly chapters, as she progresses in her pregnancy. Strange but irresistible!

BarbaraBB Looks so good! Definitely stacking #covercrush 6mo

While I thought the writing was great, I did find the story itself slow. I don‘t think having Nathaniel Hawthorne be a part of the plot was essential. He could have been any man and Isobel‘s story would have been the same.

⭐️⭐️⭐️

#botm #historicalretelling

Cinfhen Totally agree! Book was a bit of a disappointment 6mo
Kristy_K @Cinfhen If it wasn‘t for the pretty cover and promise of a fictionalized account of an author‘s inspiration, I don‘t think I would have been picked this up. So kudos for its marketing at least! 6mo

My haul from today‘s #bookshopcrawl in Liverpool.

The tagged and Prophet Song are both from Waterstones, even though Prophet Song isn‘t supposed to be published until next Thursday. The Peter May is from Oxfam, for hubby.

Bottom left and right are gifts from @Oryx and @TrishB 😘😘, from Dead Ink (my favourite shop of the day!) and finally the Aoyama is a complete #covercrush from News From Nowhere.

Deblovestoread Lovely haul. 7mo
Suet624 These look great! 7mo

Half a day‘s shopping so far! Having a great day with Trish and Emma.

Can you guess who has bought which book?!

Caroline2 Hmm bottom two Trish? Top yellow one Emma? Not sure on the others. 🤔 7mo
JamieArc I‘m really looking forward to What You Are Looking For… Sounds like you all are having a great day! 7mo
julesG Emma bought the one on the top. I'd say Trish the two at the bottom. The others might be Helen's, but could easily be anyone else's. 7mo

BIG THANKS to @Jari-chan and @TrishB for putting this book on my #ReadersRadar - I absolutely loved it 🥰 Baxter is a young black man who works as a sleeping car porter in 1920‘s Canada, when train travel was an elegant mode of transportation . He‘s often treated poorly by the guests and management where he must hide his personal feelings and serve the needs of his compartment travelers in hopes of garnering a tip for his services. Lovely 🎧

Jari-chan Oh, it must be nice as an audiobook! So happy you enjoyed the book as well ❤️ 7mo
Cinfhen Audio was wonderful but I think the book had illustrations based on audio descriptions @Jari-chan The reader was so good though. He really brought Baxter to life. 7mo

Jari-chan @Cinfhen I might need to try the audio version as well, I'm intrigued 🤭 7mo
TrishB Glad you enjoyed. He had a challenging life 😞 7mo
squirrelbrain I have this one borrowed from the library, and have had for a while. The Booker list is getting in the way at the moment. 😃 7mo
Cinfhen Yes, his story was sad @TrishB and I don‘t think things got much better for porters 50 years later 😢Read it soon @squirrelbrain I think you‘d like it. Audio was wonderful 7mo
TheKidUpstairs My absolute fave from last year. Totally deserved it's Giller Prize win. I imagine it would work really well on audio, the rhythm of the writing was so much a part of it. (There were no illustrations in the physical book) 7mo
Cinfhen Ohhh interesting @TheKidUpstairs because the audiobook describes posters and trains and it seemed like the descriptions were based from photographs or illustrations 7mo

WOW! This was #WeirdAndWonderful and uniquely original. I can‘t believe I actually “believed” the transformation. Lewis & Wren meet cute, fall in love and then he receives a medical diagnosis that changes {*almost*) everything. I mean this book is CRAZY but beautiful ( and a bit hokey😉)But man, I LOVED IT!! Audio was fantastic too🎧Top 10 of the year for sure🙌🏻🦈❤️ #CoverCrush

AmyG Glad to hear this as I just got it. 7mo
PirateJenny I have been so looking forward to this one! Not my normal type of book but the whole shark thing got me! 7mo
Soubhiville Oh wow, great review. I‘ve been wondering how this would be, it certainly sounds strange! 7mo

AmyG What @BarbaraBB said…Wow 7mo
Cinfhen I wasn‘t expecting to love this book the way I did @BookwormM - it definitely sounded way too weird @squirrelbrain but something made me give it a try! So glad I did @CoffeeAndABook @BarbaraBB @AmyG and there was a point when I thought now what?? And then the author showed me 😂 7mo
