pickI love the contrast between the cute art style and the difficult subject matter with unhoused war veterans struggling with PTSD, drug use, and gang wars. It‘s a beautiful graphic novel and provides an I interesting look at PTSD. There were a few times where it was obvious that the author still needed to learn more about living with PTSD, but it was also clear that he worked hard to understand it. #PTSD #Comic #MentalHealth

The artwork was lovely with the background coloration matching the mood of the story. The story follows a veteran home from war, abandoned by her government, and struggling. It‘s not until she gains a furry companion does she start to recover, abandoning pills & instead finding peace in community and helping others. The struggle she experiences is all too accurate in what many vets experience returning home with invisible wounds of war.
pickA war veteran comes back home to civilian life, but can‘t quite adjust back into a society that hates her for all the death and destruction she‘s caused, while gangs hook veterans on pain pills to keep them complacent in this graphic novel about mental health and community. The watercolor illustrations are so lovely and detailed and the story ends on a hopeful note.

From the colors to the types of lines in the art, there are so many details that play with the story that I couldn‘t help get excited over. I completely recommend this graphic novel and think it is an important read to incorporate in the much needed discussion about the subject.
