A powerful YA novel about prejudice in the South in 1958. Wish stories like this were required reading in school! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Well this is a helluva time to read a book that includes a hate crime!
Interesting characters and important themes - identity, grief, tradition, bigotry - but the story didn‘t hang together quite as well as it could have. Still a pick though. #doublespin

This was a quick read with an enjoyable look at the debutante life of the 1950s. However, with that comes racism, segregation, and anti-semitism. You're never too young to make a difference and fight for justice, although it can be difficult when that will push you out of the "in" crowd. I wish the ending was stretched out a bit more as it wasn't given as much time as it deserved, but still a powerful read.
