Skye has always been Deidre's protector because that's what big sisters are for. When they have to move for *reasons,* Deirdre gets even weirder than she was before and then... she disappears. Skye had finally begun to live her own life, but now that Deidre's gone, she has to dust off her old wooden sword and rescue her sister again.
Here There Are Monsters is creepy and weird and full of characters you love to hate. It is 100% my kind of book.
Ugh, I can‘t take it anymore. Half way through and I am bailing. So boring. Skye makes really stupid decisions. Deidre is horrible. I thought this was a horror book, but it‘s not. You are not responsible for other people‘s actions. Skye needs to learn this. Her parents need to learn this. Don‘t waste your time with this book.
So this story is the Blair Witch Projects meets Imaginary Girls and I picked it up cause I loved Imaginary Girls. I have mixed feelings about this book. While I enjoyed the magical realism of it I felt the book outside of that was hard to follow and the author gave very little context regarding the two girls and their parents in this story. I had a hard time caring for the characters due to that.
⭐️⭐️⭐️
Yet another meh book for this month. Took about 200 pages for anything even remotely creepy to happen. And even then it was angsty and dramatic to the point of being annoying and I just wanted to be done with it.
+3 #teamstoker #scarathlon @TheReadingMermaid
Almost 4 solid stars. Like 3.825 stars.
Grimm and fantastical. Dark and moody but not scary, just a little edgy. It felt like an Unseelie story without any fae. A slow burn but a quick read.
Monsters from the wood have taken Skye's sister Deirdre and it's up to her to slay the beast and rescue the maiden. No matter who or what she has to sacrifice along the way.
Up next for my Spooktober #Scarathlon Spectacular ! Wow. Such pretty. Much beautiful.
Starting this one now!
I got a new book yesterday! I‘ve been very interested in this one and after reading the author of House of Salt and Sorrows review on Goodreads, I knew I needed to get it as soon as possible! Have you read this one?
I wanted to read this book because I was looking for a good scare. The writing painted a fantastical tale that could‘ve given me everything I ever wanted with its sinister woods, stick/bone monsters, & creepy messenger in the middle of the night. What didn‘t work for me were the sisters, Skye & Deirdre. They behaved like little monsters & maybe the title was speaking of them which then makes perfect sense. I felt nothing for them except loathing.
Overall I was not impressed. The writing was ok but the characters and atmosphere were dry. The story was confusing and disjointed. I do not enjoy leaving negative or harsh reviews but I don't have pleasant things to say about this book. I definitely won't remember reading it in a few months. It was weird and didn't make much sense. A so so because of the writing style. Thanks for the copy netgalley. #netgalley
My brain is exhausted from this week and I can‘t focus. Hoping some YA will do the trick. Anyone else pick this up on Netgalley?
