Through a Glass, Darkly
Through a Glass, Darkly: A Commissario Guido Brunetti Mystery | Donna Leon
3 posts | 9 read | 3 to read
Donna Leon opens doors to the hidden Venice like no one else. With her latest novel, Through a Glass, Darkly, Leon takes us inside the secretive island of Murano, home of the world-famous glass factories. On a luminous spring day in Venice, Commissario Brunetti and his assistant Vianello play hooky from the Questura in order to help Vianello's friend Marco Ribetti, arrested during an environmental protest. They secure his release, only to be faced by the fury of the man's father-in-law, Giovanni De Cal, a cantankerous glass factory owner who has been heard in the bars of Murano making violent threats about Ribetti. Brunetti's curiosity is piqued, and he finds himself drawn to Murano to investigate. Is De Cal the type of man to carry out his threats? Then one morning the body of De Cal's night watchman is found. Over long lunches, on secret boat rides, in quiet bars, and down narrow streets, Brunetti searches for the killer. Will he unravel the clues before the night watchman's death is allowed to be forgotten? A fascinating novel set in the intersection between tourism and native Venetian society, Through a Glass, Darkly is Donna Leon at her finest.

This book redeemed my last experience in the series.
I walked with Brunetti along Venice‘s cobbled streets & narrow alleys. We glided over canals & raced in water busses. We drank coffee & wine in its bars.A curmudgeon owner of a Murano glass making factory threatens the life of his environmentalist son-in-law because of his political stance. Then a night watchman in his factory dies under mysterious circumstances.Brunetti looks into both issues.

Up late last night watching UConn v Iowa game - nail biter- UConn lost, 69-71. They did a great job keeping Caitlin Clark from 3pt scoring, with only 8 players to depend on.
Consequently, late morning coffee & reading.Em is curled up on my lap, totally content.😻This is perfect to read right now-spring weather & flowers interspersed throughout. Our weather has been crazy-snow Thursday, cloudy, cold, windy the last few days.#serieslove2024 Hope for☀️

TheSpineView Enjoy your reading day! 3w
Andrew65 An excellent series. Our weather has been storms and very high winds, interspersed with a lot of rain and the odd bit of sun. On about the fourth day of very high winds out of 5. 3w
