Die drei ???, und der Super-Papagei (drei Fragezeichen) | Robert Arthur
3 posts | 9 read | 1 to read

One of the best combinations: the three question marks and an espresso.

Pickpick

(1964) Second in the best middle-grades mystery series *ever*. In this one, Pete, Bob, and Jupiter investigate the disappearance of a stuttering parrot, and soon find themselves looking for seven birds, each of whom holds a piece of the secret to a greater mystery. Contrived, and with some ethnic characterization that hasn't aged well. Still, it means well and the mystery is fun and I can't not like these guys.

SRWCF Great cover art! 2y
swynn @SRWCF isn't it great? It's by the amazing Ed Vebell, who had an impressive biography: besides a prolific career in illustration, he was a combat artist in WWII, an official artist at the Nuremberg Trials; and was a champion fencer, competing in the 1952 Olympics. 2y
swynn Forgot to mention: this is my #DoubleSpin book for May. 2y
SRWCF @swynn Wow, how interesting! 2y

The Mystery of the Stuttering Parrot | Alfred Hitchcock, Robert Arthur

1. Famous Five, Malory Towers, St. Clare's, Nancy Drew, Trixie Belden, Sweet Valley & best of all, The Three Investigators.
2. OK, let me try *just one*. Fleur Jaeggy's I am the Brother of XX. There. That wasn't so bad.
3. The entire “updated" Bennet family in Curtis Sittenfeld's Eligible. Take them away.
4. The Great Gatsby. Gone With the Wind. The Old Man and the Sea.
5. @readinginthedark if you feel like it :)

batsy Thank you for the tag @River_Voice ! 6y
erzascarletbookgasm 1. Yes to all, except Sweet Valley, which I never read 😄 6y
FlowerFairy I 💜 The Three Investigators, too! Every time I go to a library book sale I see if they have any old copies. 😁 6y

batsy @FlowerFairy Me too! They are so hard to find these days. 6y
VeganCleopatra Ugh I hated The Great Gatsby. 6y
batsy @VeganCleopatra I read 3-4 times, for classes and once to revise my own opinion before the movie, but nope. Don't get it 😂 6y
VeganCleopatra That sounds awful. An English teacher in high school spent months on the book, practically making me never want to read again. 6y
JenlovesJT47 Ooh I'm going to have to find a copy of the tagged book! Love Hitchcock. And Sweet Valley fan for life here! 🙌🏻💚 6y
batsy @JenlovesJT47 It's really good! So fun 😊🕵🏽‍♀️ 6y
GarthRanzz Yay! Another Three Investigators and Trixie Belden fan! 6y
readordierachel No. 3 😂 I did not care for them either. 6y
batsy @GarthRanzz They were the best! I can still return to my happy place when I reread them, unlike Sweet Valley, where I'm just rolling my eyes now 😁 6y
batsy @ReadOrDieRachel I'm so glad to hear it! I also hated how the book used both the black character and the trans character 😡 6y
merelybookish Excellent!! You know how I feel about Gatsby!! 🙄 And I also agree 💯 percent on Sittenfeld's Bennetts. It's not the Bennetts when Mary is the most likable one. 6y
readinginthedark Yes, those Bennets were the worst! And I was so mad about the trans character. Treating Lydia‘s relationship with him as though it were the same as her running away with Wickham in the original...not operating on the same moral line. @merelybookish @ReadOrDieRachel 6y
batsy @readinginthedark Agreed! The key thing about Wickham is his duplicity and illustrating that with a trans character... NOPE. Also I think this Le Guin review of it is👌🏽 https://goo.gl/9i4Ctr 6y
readinginthedark What a great review! She points out a lot of what I didn‘t like about the characters. 6y
