The End of the Wasp Season
The End of the Wasp Season: A Novel | Denise Mina
5 posts | 7 read | 3 to read
When a notorious millionaire banker hangs himself, his death attracts no sympathy. But the legacy of a lifetime of selfishness is widespread, and the carnage most acute among those he ought to be protecting: his family. Meanwhile, in a wealthy suburb of Glasgow, a young woman is found savagely murdered. The community is stunned by what appears to be a vicious, random attack. When Detective Inspector Alex Morrow, heavily pregnant with twins, is called in to investigate, she soon discovers that a tangled web of lies lurks behind the murder. It's a web that will spiral through Alex's own home, the local community, and ultimately right back to a swinging rope, hundreds of miles away. THE END OF THE WASP SEASON is an accomplished, compelling and multi-layered novel about family's power of damage-and redemption.

From the very first chapter, you know who the killers are, so you get to spend the entire book trying to get to the why and not the who. Which is one thing I really like about Mina‘s books, since this is how her first one, Still Midnight, went as well. Also, this fulfills my #femaledetective prompt for #Booked2019, as this follows Alex Morrow, now pregnant, solving grisly murders in Scotland.

I started two books today and why do I do this to myself because now I just want to read both AT THE SAME TIME. Can I quit my job and just read full time? Yes? Cool. 🙃

Denise Mina is a brilliant Scottish crime writer so rather than The wasp factory which ive posted before on a similar thread ive gone for this one from her alex morrow series. Is it sad that i had to check that a wasp is an insect before posting, i was going go for the rebooted lisbeth salander thats on my shelf but spiders aren't insects!

Andrew65 I nee to try a Denise Mina book. 7y

Alex Morrow is a great character. I like how she just goes and gets the job done. I did find the ebook formatting annoying, though, and the dialogue sometimes has more than one speaker in a single paragraph, which can get confusing. Still, this is a good series.
